Default Iris AB African Blackwood / Sinker Redwood

Still mourning the loss of my old J 185 I sold (so dumb) a year or so ago. Have been in a fog about what to do... Finally pulled the trigger on an AB. I'm about to turn 40, and need a forever type guitar. So I went absolutely bonkers.

So... I chatted with Adam at Iris/Circle Strings/Allied and we're doing a 12 fret slot head AB with African Blackwood back and sides, also African Blackwood bridge, fingerboard, and head plate and a beautiful sinker redwood top.

Huge thanks to Adam, who is a real gent and about as easy to deal with as anyone I've ever met in guitars or otherwise. Not sure what progress I'll have before delivery...

I'm so excited.

Congrats on your 40th! I am in the same boat this year, and have opted to celebrate in similar fashion : )

That AB is going to be sweet!! I ordered an Iris AB in Sinker Redwood and Madagascar Rosewood that I’m expecting during late Summer this year.

Sounds (no pun intended) like it’s going to be stellar! It doesn’t hurt that Adam has a stockpile of fine woods next door. Not sure what Iris’ delivery time is, but if you’re expecting the guitar this year, you might want to add it to the list in this thread:

What custom guitar commissions are you expecting delivery on in 2023?

Although I think of Iris as more “made-to-measure” than pure custom (like Circle Strings, Fairbanks or other small luthiers), I would think this qualifies as a custom order for the list.

Congrats! I'd be very interested to see/hear this one.
Do you mind letting us know how much a custom Iris like this costs?
Asking for a friend...

While you’re waiting for the OP to respond, if you look at the pricing options on Iris’s website, the prices for all of the upgrades are listed except for the African Blackwood back and sides. I suspect that can be purchased separately through Allied Lutherie. For a guitar with that much customization, the price seems incredibly reasonable.

A 12-fret AB is going to be a big guitar!

Hey there. It’s very reasonable. And all your options are really clearly laid out on Iris pricing page. You just pick your options and it’s good to go. Adam was super helpful.

Yes exactly. I purchased the African Blackwood from Allied. And Adam provided options for the redwood as well.
