Smile These:

"Just the other day I was blinded by the chatoyance, tripped over my work bench and fell into the depths of the figure in the back. Fortunately I was able to swim to the edge and climb over the rim before I drowned"

nicely put, Joel. And VERY NICELY DONE

I doubt this will make it back from BIGer...

"Welcome to the forum John. I can see the roads and the swamp woods in my minds eye....sounds like an industrial weedwhacker and a redneck bridge might be in order!" Pretty much my thoughts too! Welcome John!!!

Hi. I'm a new member. I also build guitars, but shan't say much about that yet, since I have not yet registered as a sponsor. However, I live in Fairhope Alabahama, only a few hundred yards from Joel's and Steve's shop.
Serendipity was working overtime when I learned about Two Hands Guitars and how close to me it was. I live (and work) on Windmill Road; it dead-ends about one block East at a wood, with a creek through it, that's maybe a couple hundred yards wide. It's an Alabahama woods, so it's filled with undergrowth and some swamp by the creek, so it's pretty much a no-go zone.
On the other side of the wood is another street, pointing West, that dead ends, similarly, on the other side. Surprise, surprise, that's Grant Road; and a block or so, up Grant Road, is Joel's and Steve's shop!
So, make an OK sign, but separate your finger and thumb tips by maybe 1/8 inch. I live at your index finger cuticle, Joel lives at your thumb cuticle, but to get from one to the other, you must go all the way round the circle. Dang !!
Met and visited with both of them. Like them both, A LOT! Joel is the one who encouraged me to join this forum. I just wanted to let him know I did, and let the rest of the community know he has the utmost respect of other, local, folks. Ciao.

Hi John…
Welcome to the club. I’m glad you decided to sign up here on the AGF. This is a fine bunch of folks, and you’ll quickly start to feel at home. Consider sponsoring-up soon and showing us some of your guit-fiddles…you’ve seen some of mine…but I haven’t yet had the opportunity to see any of yours.

Hello there, Paul. As much as I’d love to hold on to her, she belongs with a much more talented player than I am. I’ve never been able to let go of the Cocobolo guitar (seahorse inlay) that I brought to BIGv1…and my wife will give me the stink-eye if I decided to keep this one also.

So the home-stretch has arrived, and I’m tying up loose ends before hitting the road on our way to the Bowersox International Guitarpalooza, out in the great state of Texas. We’ll be heading out on Wednesday, and hopefully there won’t be any travel delays while driving through Louisiana (due to Hurricane Ida).

I thought that it would be a good idea to introduce the guitars that will be accompanying me to the show, so that those of you attending can be a little familiar with them before you arrive.

This guitar is the first of its kind. I call it my “Venus” model, and it was built as the prototype of my new 00-size guitar. It’s top wood is Alaskan Sitka, and the back & sides are made from a rather stunning set of Pyinma…a beautiful hardwood from Southeast Asia. It has Katalox bindings and Pyinma purflings with blue veneer lines. The fretboard and bridge are Ebony, and the rosette is Pyinma-burl flanked in Paua Abalone. The heel cap and rear headstock plate also come from the same plates used for the back of the guitar.

There is a Laskan-style arm bevel, a bound-soundport, and it sports my new asymmetrical headstock…the scale-length is 25”…the neck joins the body at the 12th fret…the nut width is 1-3/4”…the string-spread at the saddle is 2-1/4”…the tuners are gold Gotoh 510 mini…the nut, saddle & bridge-pins are bone.

She’s had a couple of weeks to settle-in and find her voice. I was quite pleased with the tone right out of the gate…but the way in which she’s opened up since then has been really fun to watch. I’ll be back to show the other two guitars soon, but in the mean time, here’s a few more pictures of the Venus before I go:

Thanks for looking…

Here’s the second guitar that I’ll be bringing to BIG. It’s my “Luna” model, which is an OM/000 body size. It has an Alaskan Sitka top with a gorgeously-figured set of Honduran Mahogany for the back & sides. The bindings are Ebony, and the purflings are Koa with red veneer lines. The bridge and fretboard are Ebony, and the nut, saddle & pins are bone. The rosette is also Ebony, with Paua Abalone rings flanking it.

The scale-length is 25-1/2”…the neck joins the body at the 13th fret…the nut width is 1-3/4”…the string spread at the saddle is 2-5/16”…it has a Laskin-style bevel, a bound soundport, and my asymmetrical headstock…

So before we hit the road, I’ll leave the pictures of the third and final guitar that will be accompanying me to B.I.G. This is also my “Luna” model, but this iteration sports a shorter scale-length and a different fret-to-body join. This guitar has a Craig Carter-sourced “Lucky Strike” Redwood top…and wonderfully figured Koa for the back & sides. The bindings are flamed-Katalox, and the purflings are flamed-Maple with blue veneer lines. Both the bridge and fretboard are Ebony.

It has a 25” scale-length, and the neck joins the body at the 12th fret. The nut width is 1-3/4”…the string-spread at the saddle is 2-1/4”…the nut, saddle and pins are bone…and the tuning machines are gold Gotoh mini 510’s.
