Thanks for all of your positive comments.... the Burners have done an outstanding on every micro detail of this build and have been such a pleasure to work with. I am gonna stick with the antique gold tuners, think it will go well with the colors of the guitar.

Can't wait to see this wrapped up and headed for finish.

Awesome stuff, guys. I love the bevelled edge on the sound port.

What is the picture of what looks to be the sound hole cutout on the drill?

As Keith's guitar is only our 10th guitar, it is our first where we are binding the headstock.

I needed a way to route the ledge for the binding and maple veneer.

As I didn't have a tool/jig around to do this - and I had something similar to route the ledges on the bridges we do to account for the finish "lip" when we glue them on - I thought something similar might work.

I put together this little "jig" to allow me to slide the headstock along the round plate - with the router bit adjust to the height and depth I wanted. Yes - it was a rosette cutout that I used for the base plate as it was nice thin but stiff piece of wood.

I did some test cuts on some scrap wood and was able to get my height and widths set for the cuts on the headstock.

It worked very nicely and allowed me to see exactly what I was doing.

I will probably tweak the jig a little before we use it again - but I was quite happy with the results.

I love the way each element was to some degree overthought by my OCD mind so that when the Burners were ready to talk, we had productive honest intellectual and creative sparring to arrive at something that at the end, was in itself a component of the theme that was unique in its own right and still fit with the overall theme. The Burners really took the creative ball and ran with it on really every aspect of the build after we talked and went back and forth on each aspect of it.

At least to my eyes, almost like an OCC of luthiers for those who love Orange County Choppers and the creative building they do on motorocycles. Kind of an initial plan but then creatively modifying and designing along the way to incorporate every little detail they can.

Really a pleasure to work with and highly recommended if you ask me. I look forward to getting this sweet ride.

Alright, so I'm thinking we need another thread for Paul to grow that 'stache out

I like that soundport too. When I saw it I was reminded of logo design and the principal that simple is better. That fits the motif beautifully, though it could have also been the fin off the underside of a surfboard which is only slightly different.

As for the OCC reference it brings back painful memories of a certain limited edition Martin that I shall not name or refer to beyond this...

BTW, any reason why you guys did the neck first before moving on to the body?

Per our web site, we use Hanalei Moon to create our custom necks for us - to our specifications. We pick the woods, the amount of layers, the heel design etc. and then Chris takes it from there and delivers us a WONDERFUL neck.

This allows us to multitask on other parts of the process. The necks come to us with paddle-shaped headstocks. We apply our headstock overlays and then take them to our custom shape.

Sweet...... I forgot all about that. So much of this build has been like that. Like the surfboard shaped crack stops around the inside of the guitar that they thought up and executed completely on their own....genius.

So this OCC thing....

Does that make me Paul Jr. and Kyle is Mikey?

Or am I the grumpy old man (Paul Sr.) and Kyle gets to be Paul Jr.?

I'm voting for the first one - LOL

Sorry, I think it is the latter.
