mid-60s Gibson Humminbird top repair
Greetings from the coast. I'm repairing the top of a mid-60s Hummingbird---a chip/dent through the finish into the bare wood. I've cut in a spruce Dutchman (inlaid patch) which came out fine. Anybody have some ideas about a color matching approach or recipe for this aged cherry sunburst wood finish? I'm certain I'm not the first to go down this path. Would greatly appreciate input on this from those with more experience. My basic assumption is their cherry red was sprayed over the yellow color left exposed around the center of the top. Thanks for taking the time to advise. Skip

To clarify my question
Will try to post a photo. However can you share with me what you may know about possible color application sequencing if any, which I was referencing in the op---should I assume the cherry red was applied over the base yellow color which shows in full around and out from the soundhole? Thanks for any general commentary with this.
