A Kostal Modified Dreadnought guitar to ease the pain of a new work week... does this help you through monday?

This is Michael Watts' guitar and I am extremely jealous!

It's OK if you like that sort of thing. I happen to love that sort of thing so I really like this guitar! I would love to try a rosette like that one day but I just don't have the patience! It would take me a year to do. Beautiful guitar in every way except that it isn't mine.

Tony, similar thoughts (except for building one because I simply can't). That rosette looks like stained glass. Just beautiful!!

I've had the pleasure of playing it briefly. It brought a lump to my throat an tears to my eyes (also a distinct sense of unease to my credit card)

So have I. Indeed the term "tree" when applied to this guitar is more appropriate for the neck - normal fingerboard width but astonishingly deep; like a tree-trunk! That's the way Michael likes 'em. It's the steel-string equivalent of a first run Fender Jeff Beck.

At a recent workshop Jason said that it would be difficult to imagine two necks more different than the one I have on my MD and the one on Michael's. I like 'em shallow you see.

Hoping you can play mine soon Richard.

cheers,
Steve

I'd love to, Steve.
Jason would have to make yet another neck style for me. I can't seem to handle 1 3/4" nut width any longer. I need something a little narrower these days.
I saw Michael's guitar again at the London Acoustic Guitar Show on Saturday, but didn't get to play it. Plagued by lustful thoughts the whole of the next day!

Richard

Hi, I'm curious what makes it "modified"?

from Somogyi's site:

"Modified Dreadnought" is Dreadnought size but designed for the musician who sits when he or she plays. The Mod-D has a defined waist in the manner of a classical ; also the waist is higher up on the instrument, shifting its center of gravity and making it easier to balance. This is a guitar which fingerpickers like. Both Dreadnought and Mod-D have the same air volume (which establishes an important natural resonance frequency).

Beaten to it by Eric Song!

Essentially the modified dreadnought is a redesigned model for improved comfort and plability but retaining most of the tonal characteristics of the original model.

Does Manzer Wedge changed the dynamics of the sound?

Most people that I've talked to seem to think that the wedge doesn't have an impact. Although, obviously, the depth is variable and presumably that must have some small influence on the sound, the most important thing (or so I'm told) is that the overall air volume inside remains unchanged more or less.

I can tell you that, having played a few guitars with wedge bodies, they are very comfortable. The tone didn't seem to be compromised in any way on those guitars.

Thanks, that's good to know. I recenty sold my Langejans R6( I was very sad!), because my tendinitis in my shoulder would not allow me to play that guitar. I guess I could try modified D with wedge sometime later.

That would be great, and something to look forward to.

I know what you mean about that neck!
