Teja Gerken Fingerstyle Workshop at Gryphon in Palo Alto, California
I'm very happy to return to Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, California on Saturday, March 14th to teach another workshop. This time around, the topic is "Sounding Good on Fingerstyle Guitar," and it will be appropriate for players of all levels. Here's a description of what we're likely to do:
This workshop is all about making you sound better. Long-time Bay Area guitarist Teja Gerken will share his views on tone production, effective practicing, playing with a minimum of physical effort, avoiding repetitive stress injuries, and being comfortable when performing. Workshop topics will include exercises for the picking-hand, thoughts on nails vs. flesh playing, fretting-hand economy, vibrato techniques, controlling note length, working with dynamics, and more. Teja will also discuss some general guitar and gear choices and how to adapt your technique to different instruments and playing situations, such as playing acoustically vs. playing in an amplified setting. Teja will provide music/TAB for several playing examples, and the workshop will also include time for individual questions. Teja Gerken has been performing in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond for more than 25 years. He is also a co-founder of Peghead Nation, he’s was an editor for Acoustic Guitar magazine for 17 years, and has also written extensively for Guitar Player, Premier Guitar, Fretboard Journal, and other magazines. He has contributed to several guitar books, and is the author of The Taylor Guitar Book. His two CDs, On My Way and Postcards have received critical acclaim, and he is about to release an album of fingertyle guitar duets with Doug Young. www.tejagerken.com. The workshop will go from 11:00AM to 1:00PM, and the cost is $50, which includes several handouts and music/TAB. More info and a link to sign up at www.gryphonstrings.com/events/ |
