Default NGD - Seagull S6 Original

After a tough time in hospital, I decided I needed a new guitar
to cheer myself up!

So, having ordered a Seagull S6 original on Sunday evening
it arrived on Tuesday afternoon. I chose Wildwire Guitars in the UK
as they check the guitars and action before delivering, so it
is worth paying a little more.

The neck is fine, though the action a little higher than I expected.
Still, I can sort that out after I've got used to it. The width at the
nut is fine. I'm used to even wider nuts.

I've played it in DADGAD and the tone and resonance is
very impressive. It's easy to play, and sounds good, so I'm happy.

My digital camera has broken so I can't include pictures, but
have a look at these - unfortunately it doesn't look quite as
good in real life - but they never do.

Congratulations! Those Seagull S6 Originals are a contemporary classic in the guitar world.

I have just had a friend’s new S6 Original Slim with me for a few days to do a set-up for him. The build quality is great and the neck angle perfect. With a few strokes from nut files, a truss rod adjustment, and a little sanding off the underside of the saddle, it was easy to get a great set-up. It was the same with my own S6 and another I set up last year for a friend’s son.

I’m bet yours sounds great in DADGAD. I fitted Ernie Ball Earthwood 80/20s lights to my friends guitar and they really bought out the bass. I bet those strings in a medium gauge would be lovely for DADGAD if you are going to keep the guitar in that tuning. My own S6 has a spruce top and I have Martin Retro monel strings in light gauge on that, which are great for bluegrass flatpicking.

I think that the S6 Original (cedar top and wild cherry back and sides) is a great all-rounder – an honest workhorse guitar. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun with yours! I think James Blunt went to war in the Balkans with his S6 Original strapped to the side of his tank!

That’s great. Glad you treated yourself to a nice guitar. I just bought my first Seagull. Found an Entourage mini jumbo in mint condition. Delivery estimate is Friday I can’t wait. Congratulations on yours.

Hi j
I taught for almost 40 years locally, and when I'd do a beginner group class, I was always glad when a student showed up with a Seagull S-6.

They were easy to set action on, and sound good both from the player's and audience's perspective.

I'm not a fan of the smaller bodied model, but the S-6 is definitely a winner! And the original has a 1¾" string spacing at the nut (even though they list is as 1.8"). The new version (not original) has the 1¹¹⁄₁₆" string spacing.

I put my first experimental side port in an S-6, and it made it even better (as a fingerstyler).

Congrats!
I wanted a S-6, but when I had a chance to play one the store tag kept getting in my way[emoji19].
I think the seagull I picked up at a pawn shop years ago for a friend was a S-6 and it was great.

I hope you are feeling better, and congratulations on the new guitar. I bought a Seagull S6 cutaway back in 1998. Great guitar. Enjoy.

I’ve owned 3. My last is loaned out but I miss it sometimes. Great guitar, I hope it does the trick of making you feel better.

Congrats on a really nice guitar. I'm a recent Seagull convert having bought two recently, including a cedar/cherry S6 like yours. Only thing I had to do was sand a bit off the saddle. I also removed the strap button and relocated it to the heel. I covered the hole with one of those stick on pick holders, which works fantastic and looks good. Agree with the assessment of it being a great, versatile guitar.

Play it in good health!

Congratulations on the new Seagull. I still have an old Entourage Mini Jumbo that I haven't played in a while. It is a nice guitar. I keep it around for my "campfire" guitar; not because it is a lesser guitar, but because I paid much less for it than my other guitars!

Congrats on the S6! Some guitar retail therapy sounds like what you needed. Let us know when you get it setup.
