Default Ryan Gerber Build - RL15.5 - Swiss Moon Spruce | Black Walnut

Hello AGF,

I began receiving updates on another build that's in progress, so I wanted to continue sharing the fun!

I first played Ryan's guitars at the Woodstock Show in 2017 (For those who were there, we'll never forget the epic rainstorm that came through on Sunday!) I'd been thinking about them ever since. A number of really good pro players whom I admire seem to love these guitars, which is always a great sign. If you've played one then it's no surprise. They have a unique sound and the playability is excellent. The thick trebles and easy power/volume is what forced my hand, so I snagged a build slot from Ben at TNAG. My RL15.5 will be used exclusively for solo fingerstyle.

I took a liking to this particular set of black walnut, and I expect the flame figure to roar to life under finish. The moon spruce also looks wonderful, full of silking. I'm happy with these lovely woods. As for the overall theme... I see a sunny disposition.

More to come, thanks for tuning in!

Matt

Wow - congratulations! I'm excited enough with one build in the offing, having two new ones at the same time is amazing. Hope you're getting time to enjoy following them.

Those are some sweet looking woods. I especially like all the colors in that figured walnut back. I will be following this build thread with anticipation.

What a great set of woods! I've always admired Ryan's work though I've yet to be able to play one of his guitars.

Really looking forward to this build and seeing what rosette Ryan comes up with for this one.

Congrats and thanks for taking us along on the ride!

Nice. I remember that rainstorm well. My personal guitar is black walnut and I bet you will love it.

It will be so great! Are you sure it is Black Walnut? I would say that is Claro (maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like that to me)

And I forgot to bring my mucklucks that year.

Beautiful tonewoods for this one. I'll be following.

I was wondering the same thing. Looks a lot like the flame Claro on my RT2 12c.

Whatever it is it s sure pretty

This will be fun

I suppose it could be Claro? In truth I myself wouldn't actually know. It's referred to as black walnut in Ryan's wood inventory. This is set #301. Whatever it is, I fell in love with it.

I asked to Ryan, I will post his answer as soon as I had it!

So nice to see one of Ryan's builds here. There's a Swiss/Walnut RL15+ headed to Cedar Rock soon that I will likely be snagging, with any luck. Love Ryan's sound and playability, very nice guy as well!

So, after a talk with Ryan, this is Black walnut!

I bought a couple of sets from the same board to him, earlier this year. I am happy to know it is not claro, as I previously thought. I learned something today!

I've received a round of new photos of my Gerber build. Ryan has been busy constructing the rim set.

He employs triple-ply side laminations and solid linings. What's really impressive to me is that neck block. It's a beast and is certainly a not-insignificant ingredient to the Gerber sound, which is loud with super thick trebles. It's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, certainly.

Thanks for checking it out!

Matt
