Larrivee makes great guitars and Jean Larrivee is a wood connoisseur and has traveled far to find great wood. The guitars used to be made in Vancouver but they're all made in California now (just a little bit of background info).
It was about 10-12 years ago and our local shop had a new Larrivee D-40 Bluegrass model with an enlarged soundhole - not to be confused with the newer 40 Legacy series. What an amazing guitar. I should have bought it. It didn't last long in the store. |

I have three Larrivee guitars and have owned four others and think they're Cool! Given the craftsmanship, tone, and price of American-made Larrivee 40 Series Legacy models, it's a no-brainer to start considering the offerings of the brand with those guitars!

Would not hesitate purchasing one. I cannot think of any negatives with Larrivee guitars.

I have an LV03MT (12 string with Venetian cutaway and mahogany top) and a Parlor with flamed maple back and sides.
Both are solid wood guitars made in Canada and after 15 years, they sound better than ever. I own 5 Martins too but these Larrivees hold their own. |

Bought my first one about a month ago. SD40 12 fret. Great guitar. Super clean fit and finish and very balanced tone as so many others mention.
Might be a year or more before I buy another guitar but there is a better than even chance it will be another Larrivee. I’m actually thinking an 0 40 hog might be nice to add to the stable.

Outstanding Guitars with a lively yet balanced sound. You can really push these guitars for dynamic range.
Hand made in USA(only using CNC for a few minor parts). A true family run business with Jean & his sons personally picking out woods from all over the world. And that is very important for repeatability & consistent good sound.Fabulous customer service. And possibly the very best value per dollar, of any acoustic guitar on the market.I own Four Larrivees with a 5th on order. |

There are many AGF threads that emphasize the love of Larrivee guitars ....
My adult son has an older Vancouver built OM-03 that is fantastic ... I recently bought a USA made 000-40 that I already know I will never part with... fit, finish, tone and playabilty - all outstanding. While I have never played one I didn't like ... To my ears, Larrivee does mahogany particularly well.. Last edited by FingahPickah; 03-07-2021 at 05:56 AM. |

I don’t want to hijack but on the topic of Larrivees which I’ve owned 2 (0-40r and SD-40) the single 0 was too small for me, the SD-40 was a bit to big sounding for me - just not focused enough for what I want.
I’m looking at either getting a 00-40 or 000-40. Any advice or suggestions? I will be playing it at church so it needs to fingerpick and strum well but it doesn’t have to be loud or anything because I’m always playing plugged in with a full band. The only other acoustic I own is an Eastman AC422ce spruce/rosewood with K&K. Looking for something that will be different than that but equally suited for the stage. Any direction with those two models would be greatly appreciated |

Have a custom d50 from 99. It has the prettiest trebles of any dread I’ve ever owned. The bass in mine is kind of lacking. Overall it’s been a great guitar. Even though it doesn’t get played the same, it’s probably my most sentimental guitar as it’s my first “real” guitar my father bought for me.

Wonderful and sadly under rated guitars! Build quality, fit and finish and wood selection every bit as good as the 'bigger' name brands. I love my L 03 and it passes for a dred compared to my other guitars. Larrivee's punch above their weight and you can't go wrong with any of them. Even the parlor size models I've played have volume and complexity of tone to spare.

With an Anthem SL pickup on board it is my most 'acoustic' sounding amplified guitar that requires the least EQ fiddling to get a great sound.

Based on the responses from this lovely forum (same question!), I purchased my Larrivee (on-line) in January. OM03 (Austrian Walnut).
Love it.
