What's the longest time with one set of strings on an acoustic!
Saw a members post about a 17 month string set...thought "let's see what the members have done". Usually a couple of months is the norm for couch players...unless the dreaded "sweaty hands" syndrome is in effect...What's your longest stint with playable strings?

Very recently I saw a listing in the classifieds for a Taylor 12 string that was right around 20 years old. It said "original strings still sound great".

Probably can't beat a 20 yo Taylor with factory strings, but I've seen a few friend's guitars that come close. Strings looked like tomb relics

I recently noted the stickers I keep on my cases that remind me what I put on and when. My Martin OM 12 string has had a set of Elixir 80/20s for nearly a year. They sound pretty good so evidently I need to play it more often!

Is usually change strings after 3-4 months. I have a Boucher BG-52 and it is the first guitar I ever had where I do not like the new string sound on it. Once they are broken in the guitar sounds incredible. So I’m pushing 6 months now for a set of Elixirs. It’s officially the longest I’ve gone without changing strings.

If you include my 1974 Harmony Classical how about 40+ years?

I pulled a set of bass strings off my Fender Bass that had been on since I got in 1995. They were furry! To be fair though, it hadn't been played in over a decade.

yup
I had 2 sets go for a long ride. On a dread I left a set of Elixir Nano's on for...8 years-and they still played! The other long lived set was Martin Monels on a much used L-00...16 months.

30 years.
I had a three decade hiatus from the guitar while working. After retirement I took my roughly 50 yr old Ventura 6 string into a GC to trade it in. The strings at that point were 30 yrs old. The guy at the counter referred to them as finger cutters. |

I had Martin Lifespan on my CEO-7 for two years. Sounded fine.

I've had the same strings on my Pete Seeger 12-string Baritone for over a year . . . but it is because Martin quit making strings for it.

Same here...maybe only 6 years...the guitar wasn't played during that time, just sitting in the case...the coolest part was when I pulled the guitar out of the case, the strings still looked good, and the guitar was still in tune

My hands dont really sweat much and I wash them before playing. I use coated strings and play with just my fingers. My strings last about 6 months. i only change them when I see the coating is fraying.
I saw a working piano at a museum - it had 200 year old strings on it and still played.

My Washburn is 5 years old and I've never changed the strings! Also my Taylor 110 has strings on it from many years ago (8 years?).
I don't play these guitars often, but i use them enough that the strings on both should probably be changed. They still sound so good though, so I have no need to put new strings on them. |

Like I would remember when I put them on.
