I asked D'Addario how to spot counterfeits, and they sent me this link: http://www.daddario.com/upload/DABR_...wRes_15727.pdf

Well, they arrived today, and I opened one pack to check their authenticity. D'Addario has an online checker for that at https://www.daddario.com/play-real/. According to that, they are authentic.
Seller was slow to ship. Auction completed on Monday, tracking number didn't appear until Wednesday, and the package didn't actually start moving until Thursday. But they used a better class of shipping than stated in the listing (First Class Parcel vs. Parcel Select Ground), so they actually wound up arriving sooner than the promised window. I have no complaints about that and I'll be leaving the seller positive feedback. D'Addario has a good customer service policy about it, too. If you find fakes, they'll replace them with real ones: That's smart. Builds customer goodwill, and creates an incentive for customers to provide the kind of data that helps track down counterfeiters. |

That's a great deal if you like D'Addario strings.

They're a good baseline for evaluating other strings. Good quality, consistent, widely available.

Yep, I agree. I put EJ16's on every guitar I buy and then may move to JP or DR, depending on what I hear. I think you got a terrific deal. I usually buy three packs of DA's and pay double that, per set, CAD $.

I've tried them over the years and found them to be nondescript. Maybe that's what some folks like about them.

I think I know why they were on eBay now:
The packages are a little faded compared to a new package. The white cardboard has yellowed and the red ink is a bit less red. The photo really doesn't show the full extent of the yellowing but it shows some. So I think they were just getting rid of old stock. Fortunately the strings themselves are fine. |
