Default Vacation To Nashville

So , my Lady and I are going to Memphis and Nashville later next week.
I am going to Gruhn's , Carter's and Two Old Hippies .
Also BB Kings, the Rhyman Auditorium, Ernest Tubb's Record Shop and Graceland.
The first 3 should scratch my gear itch.

I think you’ve done great with Gruhn and Carter’s, but Two Old Hippies, while right by the lovely Thompson Hotel (highly recommended and great rooftop bar), it is more Urban Outfitters than guitar store, so you may want to consider swapping out that for Cotten, which is conveniently located by Bastion (one of Nashville’s coolest restaurants), and has great guitars in a nice calm environment. Artisan is also really great, but it takes you further afield.

On the music side, of the honky tonks, I like Robert’s Western World the best. You’ll see some killer musicians. It’s absurd in the best ways.

Have fun, Nashville is great!

I was there in 1994. The Country Music Hall Of Fame is in Nashville and it should not be missed! Don't forget Tootsies Orchid Lounge which is right around the corner from The Ryman Auditorium.

Hit the Grand Ole Opry if you can! Tickets prices aren’t bad. Country Music Hall of Fame and the Parthenon are really great, too!

I have a couple of suggestions: Sun Studios tour in Memphis, and The Station Inn in Nashville for good music (the last time I went there, the price of admission was only 2 beers).

Totally agree on the Two Old Hippies being substituted for almost anything else.
I had an enjoyable trip to Fannies House of Music a few weeks ago. It’s in a nice area on the newly trendy East Side, with plenty of restaurants.

Yes! The Emmylou exhibit is terrific. And if you have a couple of hours to spare you might take a side trip to Artisan Guitars in Franklin. Twenty minutes away with a remarkable selection of Collings, Santa Cruz, Huss & Dalton, National, Bedell and some very fine used pieces--as well as Collings and Fender Custom Shop electrics.

And if you're guitar touring in Memphis, find your way to Martin Music. Terrific store with Collings, Bourgeois, Gibson, Taylor, the occasional Goodall and a bunch of electrics.

I forgot to mention that when in Memphis try to take a tour of Sun Studio and visit the cafe next door.

For the last two years I’ve spent an extra night in Nashville when traveling to Asheville, NC. So far I’ve seen the GIG, the Johnny Cash Museum and Gruhn’s (both trips). This summer I plan to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, especially since this thread has highlighted the Emmylou Harris exhibit, and Carter’s (if I can tear myself away from Gruhn’s). So many things to do in Nashville.
