Agree that there isn't such a thing as "best "guitar, primarily due to widely varying playing styles (strumming, fingerstyle, picking), music genre (bluegrass, country, rock, etc ), auditory preferences (bass-y, crystal-trebles, balanced), size-preference (dreadnought, travel-friendly, jumbo, etc)
So you may be better off asking which are the Popular guitars instead … or simply check out the signatures of the guitarists, ya? That may give you a heads up …

Ouch! Lol. I stand by my post! You guys are just wimps! Lol I have played just about every model out there in the last 5 years and I answered his question. Besides that's more fun than saying they are all the best? Lol The guitars below are the result the result of a lot of playing, testing, and buying and selling. If you play and buy a lot of guitars you will tend to migrate to the ones YOU feel are the best. I would still trade my JM1000 for one with a CO top, and n1 neck. The Doubleneck was simply good fortune, that can happen.

That Alpaca is kind of cool. the video showing him dunking it in the lake was interesting. I know i could, but I'd never put the Rainsong in the water on purpose.
I think there are very few of us that are qualified to say which is best. By that I mean that we have not had the opportunity to play the different brands. At least I haven't.

I have now played a CA GX, CA Cargo, 5 or 6 Rainsongs, an Emerald X20-os, an Emerald X10 and a Blackbird Lucky 13. I am waffling back and forth between ordering an Emerald X10 and a Rainsong Shorty....thus indicating my preferences.
Take the above with a grain of salt, as I am a beginner (now 5 months in...woo hoo). I have however played them and had others play them for me. |

As in my signature you can see I have a few carbons and have had several others......my favorite carbon is probably my Emerald X20 and the most innovative of the builders is probably Alistair Hay over at Emerald. Does that make it the best and him? Well according to Alistair maybe.....

Defending my two picks as the best carbon guitars. Essentially comes down to answering the question, there is only one carbon instrument you can have, which one would you take home.
First criteria and probably least important but to me essential to be number one. A Carbon guitar has to be light. Carbon fiber given its strength has the ability to produce a light extremely strong guitar. A carbon that doesn't take advantage of this to me can't be number one. That eliminates some good sounding guitars. To be number one you have to be a full size guitar. Nothing against say a Parlor but to be the best in my mind to have to be a full size instrument that gives you the ability to play a wide spectrum of music. My picks, The Rainsong JM1000 CO top. Quenticential booming balanced Jumbo. No compromise to sound, full bass, CO top gives just a little more warmth to make it very much a sound that is one of the best. Crazy light for its size. The best consistency and quality control in the business. Neck setups can always go as low as you want them and I have to go low. The Emerald Doubleneck. Brings you two guitars with different sounds at the same time. Piano like balance and a warm woody tone. Very light and balanced to hold. One of the most comfortable guitars you will ever play. Striking design. It's the sum of all of its parts that get it to number one. How can you have two numbers ones? Cause its my post! And the Doubleneck is like two guitars against one, is that fair?

I think the Rainsong CO-1000N2 is hard to beat, for a lot of the same reasons Doubleneck states for the JM, it's body is big enough to give a full sound while still being comfortable to play for long periods. A bit of warmth and depth with that CO top make it a joy to play and one you don't want to put down. The set up is perfect and very stable.
I'd like to try an Emerald 20, but they are far and few between around here!

I've owned guitars from all the big 4, and I'd say Rainsong comes out on top.
Now, you just have to do your homework and decide which Rainsong is right for you. |

I haven't yet played any CF guitar. They are hard to find, then not there when I show up at the store. I do think I will play one soon since I have an Emerald X20 heading my direction. I don't know if it is the best though.

Be assured that there is no maker that makes anything but a great guitar. Doubt you will not be happy. We are having fun discussing small increments of what each feels makes a guitar the best.
