Nature-related kiddy sing-alongs?
My wife and I are doing a nature program from kids (ages 3 to 10) in a couple days. It's likely to be quite warm, so we might spend some of the time sitting in the shade singing.
Any suggestions for good songs for this context? Thanks! D.H. |

I play farmer's markets fairly regularly, so lots of kids. Engaging the kids can really help your tip bucket.
Crawdad, sometimes called Crawdad Hole, Doc Watson The repeat chorus is a good sing along. Dead skunk in the middle of the road, Loudon Wainwright III I try not to dwell on the "dead" and the blood & guts parts. And more apropo for a farmer's market... Homegrown tomatos, Guy Clark |

My grand kids (6 months--2 years) like Baby Beluga, but your crowd might have outgrown that one. The also like Ripple, which is a good sing along on the last verse (la di da da da, etc.) and it does have some references to nature in the lyrics.

The Green Grass Grew All Around, fun song for kids, and, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly. another where the lyrics build up and repeat in the same way.

Yes my kids loved that song and us old fogies tend to forget much of our old beloved cartoons were rife with slapstick violence (Road Runner et. al.)

Thanks, everybody. What I'm thinking of is Old Mac, Crawdad and Watch the Stars - all simple with repeating lines. (Actually, I hope they postpone, as the temperatures are going to be ghastly for the next few days.)
