1941 Kalamazoo KG-21 Archtop - $1200 shipped!
Here's a pre-war Kalamazoo KG-21 Archtop. These were made in the Gibson Kalamazoo shop and have a pressed Adirondack, red-spruce top and pressed mahogany back and sides. From what I can gather, this one dates to 1941 (G in the serial number) and is in great shape given its age. There's a crack down by the tailpiece, which my luthier says looks tight and stable, but otherwise no real issues other than a few minor dings and scrapes. Looks to have had one tuner button replaced, otherwise it is completely original! It's had a recent re-fret with vintage correct frets and the fretboard was planed at that time to give it a bit of relief, since these guitars do not have a truss rod, so it's ready to play for a few more decades.
These guitars are a cheaper version of a Gibson L30, with a Gibson L00 body shape - 24-3/4" scale, 14-7/8" lower bout and 4-3/8" depth, giving it more bass response than other small bodied guitars. This one has a 1-11/16 nut and a rounded "C" neck profile, unlike many of the earlier versions which were a chunky 1-3/4" "V" profile. The action is currently sitting at 5/64", with no buzzing. The tone is clear and punchy and sounds great for old-style blues, alt-country (ala Dave Rawlings) and I've actually been using it for slide, which sounds really nice. It comes in its original chipboard case and original, yellowed cream pickguard. Looking for $1200 shipped and PP... |

Free bump from a KG-21 owner. Great guitars, and about as affordable as it gets for pre-war Gibson-made.

If i did not have one I would buy this. It looks to be in great condition. If anyone wants a very comfortable archtop this is it, I play this more than my Gibson L50. If anyone ever thought about owning an archtop, this is an affordable way to do so. Good luck with your sale.
