Back to the S6

I have been flipping guitars less often. I kind of settled into my Taylor which is my main guitar and what I gig with along with babjo. Among the guitars that have come and gone are a variety of low to mid and somewhat higher end production stuff. The ones I always seem to regret flipping are Seagulls. I had a fantastic solid wood series, a couple S6 originals, a couple Entourages, and am probably forgetting one or two.

I have way to many banjos and a good friend with too many guitars. A trade between a surplus Deering Goodtime and an S6 was arranged. I have been digging the short scale and sweet tone all weekend. As for Seagulls I prefer them with a thumb pick and metal fingerpicks. To the extent I have developed "my tone", picks and a cedar topped Seagull is it. Going back to the S6 feels like going home.

I once had an older S6, a1991 or 1992. I loved that guitar. Kind of wish I still had it. I understand where you're coming from.

I bought an early S6 when I was in Seattle. Still miss that guitar.

It was the very first year they made them.
The neck was crooked, all beat up but I liked it because it has character and stories for every scar it wore.

I came very close to buying a rough looking Seagull a couple years back
I was saving my "good hubby" cards for the MD70 listed below.
But I really wish I had bought it.
It was a heck of a guitar.

My S6 Folk Cedar is the one I always grab first. I love the folksy, twangy sounds that come from it. It too has a couple scars from music stands falling on it and such. Adds character.
Several guys have come up during jams to ask what I'm playing. Obviously not because I'm good. I think they hear the sound and the reverse headstock and have never seen one so they want to know what it is. Or, maybe its that I'm that bad and they want to know what to stay away from?

I sold my S6 slim but I found they finger pick/style very well.
