Gloss Neck vs Satin Necks
More interested in the discussion but I find polls fun.
I recently got a new acoustic and it has a satin neck, my older acoustic’s I had were satin, but my LL16 I bought a couple years ago is a gloss. They both feel nice but I think I prefer the satin, feels like a move around easier. My electric I used to have I preferred my Les Paul (which I still have) to my telecaster, the lp has a gloss, I played way faster on that than the fender. What do you prefer? Might want to correct typo spelling in the title sir. While I like the look of both, the satin finish is better for playability for me.

So far, I represent 33% of the vote, of "indifferent" I'm a pretty fussy chap, but this isn't something that bothers me.
Wonder why?

All glossy necks are not created equal, so that can make a difference.
Personally, I don’t find any great degree of difference between my Gibson’s gloss necks and any satin I owned.

The satin ones I've had became polished necks over a fairly short span of time. I've had guitars where the finish has been worn off the neck. Those are sweet.

I almost voted “indifferent” but I gave satin the nod.

I have both, but my favorite are my two Wingert necks. I had them both reshaped a few years ago and Kathy finished them with gun oil. Nicest feeling necks ever! Similar to satin but different.

Satin. Sometimes I make fast chord changes that cover a lot of distance on the neck -- seems that a gloss finish makes these changes harder for me as my hand "drags" on the gloss.

My Halcyon has a unique satin neck that I prefer over a traditional satin or gloss. The Halcyon neck feels like it has been rubbed with oil, or maybe an ultra thin layer of something else. I can feel the grain of the wood like it's open pore.
I don't think this neck will ever shine up to a gloss the way my other satin necks have. |

To me a satin neck says "unfinished" and "a cost cutting move".
Make mine gloss-always. |

Well I voted ‘indifferent’, but I have a leaning towards gloss - those satin necks have ‘looks cheap and nasty’ written all over them AFAIC, although I’m just as happy playing a satin as a gloss neck.

If I were designing a custom guitar I would say satin neck gloss body. But I own gloss necks and they are OK. Having said that some gloss necks are definitely better than others. I like Gibson/Guild gloss necks better than Larrivee gloss...a lot better

Satin for me or a worn in gloss finish . But my favourite is the satin neck that's buffed through use

Hi d.l…
My thumb glides behind the neck, so I prefer a neck that is not sticky. I don't care which finish… |
