Default Eastman Guitars

Myself, managing a company that makes American made products I have always felt it was important to buy American if it available and affordable. For me, it also had a psychological affect on what I thought about the product, especially a musical instrument. I have been blessed to be able to acquire instruments that meet my criteria. For some it doesn't seem to make any difference. If it's a good instrument, it's good period.

I have been helping a son of two of my best friends to learn to play guitar. He is currently using an older overseas made guitar which has high action and needs to be replaced. I have read a lot of good things about these Eastman guitars and have found an E10D that seems to be a good deal and is priced in his budget. The price would be about half of what's needed to purchase an American made guitar equal to it. Just how good are Eastman guitars? I see quite a few for sale. Are there issues with them or are people using them as a stepping stone until they can afford an American version? So my question is, start with an Eastman and see if it will be the guitar to last a lifetime or save a little more and buy the real deal and never have to regret anything?

They're fine guitars and for the money, exceptional bargains.

Lifetime guitar? They're constructed to be but in reality how many end up as that?

I played one in arguably the finest guitar store in NYC. The extremely knowledgeable manager of that shop was very impressed with the build and tone of that brand. The tone rivaled guitars in his store selling for thousands above the Eastman.

Eastman guitars are everything Goodallboy said and you are going to hear from many, many happy Eastman owners before this thread is done.
Probably hear from some nay-sayers as well. Things like "well, their good for what you pay" and things like that.
Actually, for what you pay, they are "better" than a lot of guitars IMHO.
How many of any brand end up as "lifetime guitars"

I own one Eastman guitar, an AR371CE jazz box and it is perfect for me, nicely made and a good tone both electrically and acoustically. I've played some Eastman flat tops (but can't remember their names ) and they were really first class instruments, in fact one of them, a 00 lookalike, I would have taken home with me there and then if I'd had the money.
So if you find one you like the sound of, my suggestion is to buy it, you won't be disappointed. They come with a hard case too.

If its not a Martin or Gibson it wont be a lifetime guitar. As far as being as good as, a few years ago I played some new ones and they didnt strike me as being so. I think they would be good enough though for your situation. Also why compromise your values for someone else? It should be his decision informed by your knowledge.

Lifetime guitars can only be determined by one person and that is the player.

Eastman makes a very fine guitar and we all have different reasons for being loyal to different brands. If an Eastman ticks the boxes in tone and playability, then it can certainly be a lifetime guitar, imo.

Exactly, that's why I wanted to get the views of many that have played and owned them. Thanks.

If the name on the headstock and country of origin are important to you and your son, buy an 18 or 28 series Martin and be done.

Eastman makes very good guitars. They're good enough for me.

Other people have the good sense to look outside the box and see the infinite other guitars out there that are a better fit for them.

There are luthiers out there making guitars that Gibson and Martin can only dream of.

I love my Eastman. I've been using it as my main gigging guitar ever since it arrived, more so than my two Martins. A lifetime guitar? Well, I'm fairly certain it will be making some guitar player happy long after my lifetime. So will the Martins.

Love my all Sapele GA so much I have another Eastman on layaway. An E20SS. The salesman admitted he has Eastmans in his collection.

And the guy that did the set up on my GA kept shaking his head in disbelief when he found out how much it cost. He used to work for Taylor and Gryphon strings so I take it as a ringing endorsement.

All this to say, they're great in their own right and some may prefer them just like some prefer Martin to Taylor or Gibson.

The specs always look good, as does the price point, but when I listen to well recorded demos of them on YT they always sound like thin, cheap Yahamas. I have no idea why.

If I can find one in person I'll check one out.

Did you listen to the one posted in this thread through good speakers or headphones?
If that sounds cheap and thin to you well...there's not much left to say.
