Default Martin Retro demo on a Gibson J-45....

Maybe not the best demo, but I like the way it sounds with these on and its only day two. These are a set of 12s.

Nice Barry.
Might be interesting to do another recording - same tune - in a week or so.
I don't think there will be much difference.
Monels seem to settle in fast and just stay that way for ages.
Love them on mahogany - not so much on rosewood.

Yes... Thats the Retro tone.. Quiet Sweet and delicate!

Got em on a Rosewood guitar. I like them on there but its only my third try for strings. For those who do not like Retros on RW guitars, what do you land on for strings.

I went: Bronze 8020 then Nickle Bronze then Retros and retros are the first to bring balanced tone to my guitar... The others being far too brash.

I've tried Retros on a bunch of guitars. Here's how I rate them:

Great: Martin 00015M (all mahogany), Martin D15SM (all mahogany)
Pretty darn good: Gibson LG2 (spruce & mahogany), Waterloo WL12 (spruce over maple).
Not nearly as good: Guild D-30 (spruce over maple), National M2 (laminated mahogany resonator)

FWIW, I think I like John Pearse PBs better on the LG2, and Pure Nickels on the Waterloo.

Very nice Old School sound!
Been using Retro 12 & 11 sets for 3+ years now.

sounds great, good playing!
for me monels always sound better after being tuned to 440 tension overnight and then get better for about 2 weeks and stay that way for 4-6 months.
They sound like a great match on your J45. Once you play them for awhile on a guitar they match up with like your J45, phosphor bronze sound like nails on a blackboard.
You really do hear the natural sound of your guitar without hearing that obnoxious just string tone.
I have a set of titanium's waiting for my next string change in the spring. I hear great things about them as well.

Sounds very nice; the strings sound almost like nickel electric strings.

They sound good. I wish you would have played some with a pick to hear what that sounded like.

Good idea. I'll do another next weekend Bruce.
