Default Old capo repair

I got this old capo from my great Uncle. My guitar teacher says it's from the 50s, and it's brass. Works great, and I put new cork on the cross bar, but the cork did not last long.

I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for alternatives to the cork. How about a rounded piece of ebony or bone glued on there? Anyone try something like this before? I have a great luthier nearby, so I'll bring it to him. Thanks!

I'd go with leather - vintage appropriate and durable, but not, alas, "vegan."

Oh, and stick it on with some Barge Cement.

Thanks for the suggestion - I remembered I had an old belt I could use. I have some Gorilla glue, but I'm starting with the Elmers. I'll let the glue dry and test it tomorrow.

I used the Gorilla glue, and now it's tight and sounding right. Thanks again for the suggestion!
