SOLD Northwood R75-MJ Engelmann Spruce/EIR (To be consigned on 6/2)
Background to Purchase
I have owned this guitar for about a year, purchased as a foray into developing my fingerstyle technique. My search parameters were for a high quality, luthier-built instrument which would provide the articulation, clarity and modern tone that would allow me to build my skills, while offering a solid low end and headroom/dynamic range. Description That search led me to this Northwood R75-MJ, which John McQuarrie describes on his website as follows: The Northwood Mini-Jumbo provides strong mid-range and treble, while adding a boost to the bottom-end. It's 16 1/4" lower bout, combined with the tight waist, make it a very comfortable guitar to play. Reason for Sale I am now putting the Northwood up for sale because I've expanded my collection over the past year and am fortunate to have a custom build with Michael Bashkin slated to begin in the fall, drawing on lessons learnt from the several guitars I've acquired. I expect the build to bring together preferred attributes from other guitars, and so I am starting the process of rationalizing. I'm making the Northwood available on AGF through June 2; on June 3 I plan to consign it under a prior arrangement I have with an AGF Sponsor, where it will list for my asking, plus the cost of the consignment fee and listing fee. The Avian Skylark, which was purchased to experiment with multiscale and to evaluate how important an arm bevel is to me, will be coming up for sale in the coming weeks when I have access to it for photos. (If you are interested, please email me). Trades I am open to trade offers, and I am interested in the following but also open to other suggestions.
I don't really get the concept of "trade credit" - if we want to swap, let's agree what we would accept as payment in separately negotiated sales, and cash will either move from me to you, or the other way around. Sound Clip A sound clip of the Northwood MJ series (not this specific guitar) is linked at the Northwood page. http://www.northwoodguitars.com/mini-jumbo.html 75 Series Specifications This is a "75" specification model, meaning it has all the standard features of the "70" specification, plus some of the "80" series features. The "70" specs are as follows:
My understanding is the "75" spec adds the following
Upgrades and Retail Pricing In addition to standard specifications, Waverly Tuners with Ebony Knobs were specified, and a Fishman Infinity Pickup and Preamp (with controls - in soundhole) were added. I know it's silly but I'm actually very attached to the Ebony Knobs and I plan to specify them on my Bashkin. I have an invoice, pictured, provided to the original owner, for $4175. My understanding is the pickup was added by the previous owner and so the "all-in" cost of the guitar is over $4500. Sale Price and Availability I am asking the reduced price of SOLD, which includes shipping in the lower 48, and also includes PayPal "sale" fees. If we do a trade, we will figure something out. This Northwood will be consigned at another AGF Sponsor (at a higher price) at the end of the week. Disclosures and Measurements There is a tiny, not-through-the-finish pick mark in the lower bout. I tried 4-5 different angles to get this in pictures and in most of the angles you can't really see it. This was the best I could do (see picture with finger pointing towards the mark). There are 3-5 very small notches in the the archtop case. A picture of the closed case, showing one of these notches (see light brown dot in upper right) indicates the size of these - this one is the largest of them all. Measurements in inches (mine, as no "official" Northwood specifications are online): Upper Bout - 11.625 inches Waist - 9.5 inches Lower Bout - 16.25 inches Depth@Head - 3.625 inches Depth@Tail - 4.625 inches Body Length - 20.125 inches Scale Length - 25.5 inches Overall Length - 41.375 inches Nut - 1.75 inches String Spacing at Saddle - 2.1875 inches (corrected, thank you @Stevien) IMG_0003.jpg IMG_0004.jpg IMG_0005.jpg IMG_0006.jpg IMG_0007.jpg IMG_0008.jpg IMG_0009.jpg IMG_0010.jpg IMG_0011.jpg IMG_0012.jpg IMG_0013.jpg IMG_0014.jpg IMG_0015.jpg IMG_0016.jpg

Are you sure the string spacing is 2.25"? Very unusual for a Northwood. They're almost always 2 3/16".

Wisdom of the crowd - took out my spacing tool this morning and yes, 2-3/16ths it is, appreciate the correction.
Edited, with a $100 reduction/tip of the hat - to $1900 all in - in appreciation.

...but nothing firm. If interested in a sale, make me an offer - or if you have something to trade, PM me a suggestion.
