I know her quite well. I still own a home less than 1 mile from her shop. She is usually quite backed up. Yes, she does excellent work.

Hi Toni

When did you get the guitar? I was in at Gryphon's in January looking at a Cervantes. There was a lady looking at the guitar at the same time. Could it have been you?

No it wasn't me. I just received the guitar on Wednesday. I live on the opposite coast in Delaware.

I think I have seen pics of your Cocobolo Cervantes. That is what got me to researching these guitars.

OK, I would have thought it funny if we were both in at the same time. Nice instrument, I know you'll enjoy it.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on a new nylon-string guitar, and I'm agonizing over which model Cervantes guitar I want to buy. Models currently under consideration are the the Crossover 1, the studio series Rodriguez model, or the Concert M Millenia. Has anyone here tried or compared these particular models?

Thanks.

Bob

Hi Landru,

My curiosity, centers more around overall "tone", and not so much about the playability/narrower nut on the Crossover 1. I presently have two nylon-string guitars with 2" nuts. Basically, I'm curious how the 12-fret to-the-body models compare tonewise to the Crossover 1 (14-fret to-the-body)

I'm ordering this guitar on-line, so unfortunately, I can't test-drive first.

Thanks, every day I love this guitar more and more. You have no idea how long I have searched for a crossover classical with this quality of tone and playability. I had all but given up on finding a crossover on this level for under $5000. Cervantes are some of the best buys going.

Give Tom a call at Gryphon 1 888 493 2131. Thay have each Cervantes model you are considering in stock. He is very capable of answering all of your questions and will be more than happy to do so.

The Cervantes Crossover 1 is not 14 frets to the body. It is 12 (unless you count the cutaway side). The Crossover II has a standard 2" fretboard width.
As far as tone goes, the Crossovers have a very modern, lively voice. They have lattice bracing and the treble notes really pop and sing. This guitar is very lyrical. I can almost say that it wants to play itself.
Go to the Dream Guitars website. They have soundclips of several Cervantes models on their site. Look under New Guitars as well as Previously Sold.

Toni, I just ordered my Cervantes from Gryphon and cannot wait to get it!! They recommended the Highlander pickup which is what I am having installed. I'll post some pictures and sound bytes so you can hear what it sounds like through the Highlander!

Wow, that is great! You are in for a pleasant surprise my friend. Did you buy the one they just got in this week, the spruce/indian rosewood? They recommended the highlander to me too. I should have let them install it, but I wasn't sure if I would like the Palo Escrito. Since I live on the opposite coast, I couldn't take the chance because I would not have been able to return it if pickup was installed. I am trying to get my highlander installed by next week.

I can't wait to hear from another satisified Cervantes owner. And yes, please do post those sound bytes and share some pics asap. Congrats!
