Default NGD - Avalon A200

Got my 2003 Avalon yesterday - it’s in better condition than I had dared to hope, looks like it hasn’t had much play over the 15 years since it left Ireland.

I was hoping it would give me that classic Celtic sound and I am not disappointed - the trouble is all my other guitars sound somewhat muted after playing this one.

Now to start working on that Si Bheag Si Mhor...

Beautiful guitar, and congratulations! I'd love to see the back if you remember to take a picture of that too. Either way, enjoy the Avalon, it looks fantastic.

Nice! Does it have more mid range than the Furchs?

I would say it’s the bass that stands out...

Welcome to the Avalon owners club. I usually keep a guitar out on a stand for quick play when I only have a few minutes. Your recent posts about acquiring this guitar made me dig out my L32C this weekend. She's currently in Csus2 tuning for some Martin Simpson stuff I've not played in a while. If you haven't put your Avalon into a dropped tuning yet, then you will really experience the bass these beauties can throw out.

Thanks - I’ve had it in DADGAD and D pretty much the whole time..the bass is quite something..

Congrats! You know you've got an amazing guitar when it makes your other guitars feel "muted". Enjoy.

My '03 A-201 (identical except for a cedar top) is an amazing fingerstyle guitar - clean, crisp, with instant response and excellent projection - and painfully (literally) loud when strummed (great for cutting through at the local seisiun). Just happens to be next in line for a set of Martin Monels - if they do what they did for my other guitars it's going to be incredible...

Not the first-call tone for many players, but it has a way of growing on you - use yours well and often...

Congrats
I have been Avalon curious for a long time.. Don’t get much of a chance to sample them.
Someday perhaps.

Hi Steve, I’m interested to hear that. Have you left the original nut and saddle in yours? (Tusq) I also noticed the bridge saddle slot isn’t deep, meaning the saddle is only about 7mm - is yours similar. I’d love to see some photos - in particular a close up of the bridge/saddle if you have a chance.

I’ve got Wyres DADGAD on mine at present but will be trying a few sets, including Monels.
