Well, we know that most of you don't have one of these! This intriguing and innovative build by P.D. Gruen is called his "EQ" model. This super jumbo has a look, a sound and some features that you'll rarely see anywhere. At 18" across the lower bout, and with its unusual array of sound holes, the EQ is a real sight to see. Though it looks like an archtop at first blush, it is in fact a fully acoustic flat top guitar. It has an Adirondack spruce top, and very pretty flamed Honduran mahogany back and sides. It has tortoise binding and an ebony bridge and fingerboard, but that's about where the similarities to classic "18" style instruments end.

The tone, as you might imagine, lands somewhere between a really focused flattop, and a really warm acoustic archtop. It has a distinct and might resonance, highly balanced but not lacking in low-end growl. One of the most unique features is the little sound hole plugs/covers that are included, which can be used to plug any of the ovular sound holes on the top. This focuses the air in the box toward the unplugged holes, and changes the voice of the instrument in a subtle but noticeable way. The covers are made of ebony and are very handsome and easy to use.

A slightly more tinker-y feature (but one that is also very interesting) is the ability to change the down-pull on the strings, via a hex bolt at the bass of the tail piece. This adjustment has the ability to transfer more or less string tension to the top, affecting volume and sustain. You really can dial in the EQ of this guitar, in more ways than one!

Long 25 1/2" scale length, with 1 3/4" nut width and 2 1/8" string spacing at the saddle. The neck is a flat-ish "D" shape, very modern and comfortable. Cutaway for upper fret access. The body is very comfortable to hold, with a depth of just 3 5/8" at the tail block. Gold Schaller tuners with ebony buttons. Rich, organic looking open-pore finish. Condition is excellent, with a few light pick marks on the top and what appears to be a scratch on the peghead below the D string tuner. Very minimal fret wear under the unwound strings. Includes custom Cedar Creek hard case, sound hole plugs and adjustment wrench for tail piece.
