Default Welp...I finally joined the harp guitar club!

Like I suspect many of us, ever since seeing Michael Hedges play "Because It's There" I've wanted a harp guitar. Problem was that the good ones were seemingly always more than I wanted to spend on a guitar that wouldn't get played enough to justify the price and the (few) cheap ones I saw were really bad.

This spring I was in Gruhn's in Nashville and they had a couple Timberline examples. These are well built and sound decent - and more importantly - weren't all that expensive! I was there in May, again in June and July (bought a high dollar custom Martin on one of those visits!) and played the Timberlines every time.

I passed through town again on Monday and the T30HGc they had grabbed me. They actually dealt a little on the price and when I left they were installing K&K's in it and it should be shipped to my door by Friday. My only concern is that they are no longer sold with a hard case, but the gig bag they now ship with will do for now. I'll probably build a real case for it sooner than later.

Now all i need to do is learn how to play it.. lol

Welcome to the world of the "full sized" guitar! Keyboard cases for 76 key keyboards work well, just have to get some foam to put in it.

Congratulations! I have a Timberline and it's the real deal as far as I'm concerned. I love it!

I went to the Harp Guitar Gathering last year in order to get some ideas about how to manage those bass strings. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had in music, and I'm going again this year. You should consider checking it out.

Question

Kego.... Let us know what your impressions are of the K&K pickup in there..
And does it have the standard sensors on the bridge for guitar or is it a special pickup for Harp guitars? I have a '1897 Chris Knusten and don't want to get to invasive as it's somewhat fragile.

OMG! that is gorgeous!

I want one...

I can't play one,, but I want one..

I've heard some absolutely mesmerizing music come out of these baby's.

Hedges was mind blowing.. probably one of the legends of the harp guitar,, well legend period...

Muriel Anderson aint no slouch either!

Congratulations and good luck with this new endeavor.

I had two sets of the standard K&K's installed as an experiment. They are wired together so that it all comes out through one cable. It sounds really good, although a little heavy on the bass strings mainly since those are basically drones (not to mention that my technique still sucks...lol). A bit of EQ and it's fine though. I'm pretty happy with it so far, although after 55 years of finger picking it's a bear to get used to strings so far away from where you're used to them being! But the more I play it the better it gets...lol
