HAven't heard of the D870. I own D770 and my partner uses a D880 (pretty much the same mic put the D880 is a supercardiod where the D770 is just a cardiod). Both decent mics, a little on the bassy side but both sound better to me than the Shure SM58's I've tried. I prefer the clarity of the Sennheiser E835 and especially the EV N/D767 on my voice.
