Default Bridge replacment

Well, I have been hesitating posting this question, but here goes - I have a (beefy) 1 3/4" nut width dread that is extremely lightly built, and which I have strung up with nylon ball end strings. It sounds just fantastic with the nylons, and I also notice that there is a few others that have and love their nylon dreads. Because it has the standard steel string bridge, there is a limitation of the different ball end strings available. I've never read about it before, but can the steel string bridge be replaced with a classical tie on type bridge? I would love to explore different string options, such as wound thirds, carbon trebles, etc., plus just think that the classical bridge would be more apt for what I am doing. Can this be done at a reasonable price? Thanks.
