Default Strings for H-DR1100 N2

Hi all, I’ve never been particular about my guitar strings. I’ve played an HD28 for years with medium gauge Diadarios. Now I have a Rainsong HDR1100 and it hit me that maybe I need to consider certain strings for this. Is that the case? I’m not picky but I will be playing for large audiences and I’d like to get a decent sound. Will any light gauge do? I don’t prefer elixirs at all (because of the weird shedding). Thanks in advance!

I just got the V-DR1100N2 and I am using the Martin LifeSpan 2.0 Phos Bronze strings. I use 13s, but I am sure the 12’s will sound nice too.

I prefer phosphor bronze on my Rainsongs (or poly coated Elixirs) to cut back a bit of the initial brightness with new strings.

To my ear, I've found lighter strings do not subtract volume as much as I would expect from my experience with wooden guitars. You might consider raising the action on the RainSong as I find you can really hit them hard and they continue to get louder.

Any impressions you can share on how your H-DR holds up against your HD-28 for tone and volume?

Consensus around here is that it really pays to try a few different strings, as the carbon fiber seems to respond more dramatically to string type than a wooden instrument. I've found night-and-day differences with a string swap on my Rainsongs.

I keep sticking with the D'Addario EXP coated strings, which work well for my fingers and ears.

I've settled on Martin Retro 12s for most of my guitars, including my Rainsong HD-1100 N2. Last a very long time and don't degrade - warmer tone than PBs to my ear....

I concur! Except; I like the Custom lights as I play for several hours at a time and my old hands aren't as strong as they use to be.
