Godin Doyle Dykes Signature Guitar
I'm posting this here because this appears to be where all the Godin Doyle Dykes pros are and I have a couple questions for you that are experienced with it.
I loved reading everyone's input and comments on this guitar. I was going to buy an A6 in cognac burst but couldn't pass this up for the money and it played a whole lot better. It was setup by a luthier but the customer never paid for it and never picked it up. Now it's mine. 1) I find that I can only use the microphone volume maybe 20% before it feedbacks. Is that how it works on everyone else's? 2) What replacement strings are you happiest with on this guitar? Thanks my friends. I'm looking forward to your comments. |

I haven't had the issue that you describe with the mic pick up. You can adjust the sensitivity of it from the back (and not just the volume with the slider on the front). Godin has a video explaining the controls and the adjustment I mentioned on YouTube.
With regard to strings, I've been using the GHS Doyle Dykes signature strings. I use them on my 1936 Gibson archtop as well. When I asked Doyle what he used, he said he used the GHS signature strings. Since i had some, I tried them and though they sounded pretty good and have gone with them since. It is a really nice guitar. Enjoy! Last edited by The Growler; 06-13-2020 at 09:35 PM. |

Growler, thank you so much for responding.

I'll check out the video and adjust that pot. I should have suspected there was a pot inside as it is so sensitive it can barely be used. I'll also check my local retailers for his strings as well. Wasn't even aware that GHS had DD signature strings. Thanks again my friend. |

DD Godin
I find I use the Lyric at about 20% because I think it sounds best there. Haven't had any feedback issues with it.
I use D'Addario NB lights (12-53). They really improved what was already a good sound when plugging in and they last quite a while. After hearing mine with those strings a couple of my guitar buddies switched as well. I also use the Zoom AC-3 (newest version) as a front end when going into a PA. I like the added EQ options and being able to control how much signal I send to the FOH. FWIW, I've played plugged in acoustic guitars on stages from dive bars to stadiums for over 40 years. I have used pretty much every system out there at one time or another and still have several high end options. I don't even consider playing anything other than the DD when playing out any more.
