Default Setup...........do I need one?

Apologize in advance for another dumb beginner's question...........

Have only been playing nine months (nylon acoustic), and have not had a setup done. Now that I've begun learning to play some bar chords further down the neck, I've noticed that the distance between the strings and the frets is fairly minimal on the first 3 or 4 frets, but as you go down the neck, the distance is significantly higher. Do I need a setup? Or, since I am still pretty much a rank beginner should I just leave it as is?

Thanks,

Most new guitars are not setup properly from the factory, even instruments of $2000 and more.

If your guitar has never been setup, there is a good chance it should have a setup.

Probably worth the $50 or $60 for a setup. At least then you'll know, and your guitar will be as playable as possible.
