Just received my 2012 Seagull entourage mini jumbo on Friday. I think I will really enjoy it once I get it dialed in.

Yeah. I paid close to that for this one but it was never played. Still had original strings on it. Also came with hard form case that it lived in for the last eight years. I’d say it is worth it.

It has a 16" lower bout.

The MJ by Northwood stands for 'Mini-Jumbo' but it has a 16 1/4" lower bout.

The SJ by Collings stands for 'Small Jumbo' ... but it also has a 16" lower bout.

The SJ by Gibson stands for 'Super Jumbo' with a 17" lower bout.

There's plenty of room for confusion!
Gibsons small jumbo is the J185. J200 is a Super Jumbo @17".

Mini Jumbo Brands???

Yes, the term 'mini-jumbo' is an oxymoron. The word jumbo literally means 'large'. Thanks to some (un-?)imaginative marketing departments and certainly unimaginative marketeers, the term jumbo now refers to either/both a size and/or a shape as far as guitars are concerned. There is no accepted overall definition of any of this, just a bunch of people with different opinions. Here's mine and why:

I consider the Gibson (S)J-200 to be the original jumbo pacesetter, and since this bad boy has a 17" oversized lower bout, then anything around a 17" width would be a true jumbo. Keep losing an inch, say 16" (Taylor GA size), would then be a medium jumbo, and say 15" (Taylor GC size) would be a small jumbo, while anything significantly smaller would be a 'mini' size. Makes as much sense as anything in this business. This also blends nicely with Taylor's size/model descriptions. A couple of previous posters mentioned the overall similar look of Taylors' GA and GC shapes, to which I am referring. I would throw in the Grand Orchestra as a jumbo related shape and size also. It is actually louder than a jumbo, probably due to its light build and deep depth, while the lower bout is nearly 17" in width. It also has a noticeably wider waist than a Gibson J-200 which may also contribute to volume.

Since the term super-jumbo is both redundant and superfluous referring to an oversized guitar, I do not refer to my J-200 as a super-jumbo. Besides the label states it is a "J-200" model, so that is what I use. Seems Gibson can't make up it's mind what a 'jumbo' is either. But I do think I own a 'super' guitar there. Super as in über, mit die umlaut. ('Umlaut' doesn't have an umlaut in/on it, but über does.)

Note: 'über' means 'over', not really 'super', but it seems to be taken for super in English, and maybe a bit in German too. It's all about the attitude.

Edit> I just remembered that John Denver supposedly had/played a Guild 12 string that had a lower bout width of 18".
So I guess there is/was super-sized jumbo after all.

And with a waist of an RCH under 14.5", you can call it small or mini, whichever you prefer. I checked it out a couple years ago. Nice little instrument.

And since Guild markets it as a 'Jumbo Junior', there's yet another term/size to deal with. ;-)
Sigh. ;-(
