Thanks Steve. I don't use my K2 much any more, but thought it might be worth trying a tube swap. Maybe I will scrap that idea.

I for one, like the sound of the K2 (and I own a bunch of expensive mics), but I think they are hit or miss on the capsules. I had good luck when I bought mine, and I put a NOS tube in it, which dropped the noise a bit and I think sounded better.

Thanks Rockabilly69. Mine is an early K2 and I think mine has a nice sound too (which is why I have kept it). However, it's the only tubed LDC I own. What NOS tube did you use?

I found this list of compatible tubes on Gearspace, but didn't know which might be best:
Amperex 6922 / E88CC (made in Holland)
Amperex 6922 (Made by Amperex U.S.A.)
Siemens CCa (Made in West Germany)
Telefunken CCa (Made in Germany.)
Telefunken E88CC / 6922 (Made in West Germany.)

Thanks!

That’s fine. Everyone looks for something different. And, depending on your ears, the top end may not be as harsh to you.
