Default Interesting Guitar Center Experience

I spent about an hour in the Richmond, VA Guitar Center on Saturday, waiting out an intense thunderstorm that made driving all but impossible. My refuge, as it were!

I checked out all of the higher-end acoustics, including a D-18, D-28, 000-28, J-45, J-15, Hummingbird, and a few of the new Taylor 800 series.

All well and good, especially the Hummingbird.

But the guitar that I had to tear myself away from was a satin-finished, all-mahogany 000-15, retailing for $1,299. It was a ridiculously good guitar at that price point, and to my ears, the best acoustic guitar in the building.

Yea buddy! I just posted today about how much I like my little 000-MMV. It's a great guitar!

Maybe you should go back and get it?

Oddly enough, when I close my eyes, my favorite Taylor's are some of the low end ones.

It’s funny to rate them by ear and not price tag. I played all the high end acoustics in a store on a recent trip. The only one who held my interest was the J-45 Standard...I could feel it’s resonance much more than anything else in the store. I should note, it also felt like a rainforest in that room.

I never liked the 000-15s but the D-15 is a wonderful guitar.

This is probably a longshot question, but did you happen to see any nice lefty acoustics in there? I'm in Virginia Beach and would be willing to make the drive up there if there's anything worth checking out.

I've had the same reaction, when I've played that model. I'm not in the market for it, or else one would have probably come home a while ago.

Just fyi, you can have any lefty from any Guitar Center shipped to your store for you to try.

For example, there's a stunning, mint 2008 Taylor 814ce at the Salt Lake City Guitar Center. It was warm and oh-so-responsive, and I liked it much more than all the others in the room, which included V class's, 12 frets, and so on. And I'm not generally a Taylor fan.

Sorry, I didn't see a single lefty in either of the "good" guitar rooms.

Love those 15s... and their satin finishes. I'm partial to the 00-15M, but the 000 is a great guitar.

If that was the case, and your in the market for a J45, you may want to buy that one.
The "Rain Forest " effect is part of the ambience at many GC's in the acoustic room.

I had a 000 15 that was AMAZING.

I only sold it because of the neck width wasn't quite right for me. I tried an OM 15 but it wasn't as magical
