Default Entry Level Martin

Hi all,

Thinking its time to graduate from the plywood guitar I've been playing. Really want a Martin but don't want to have to sell my car to get one.

Can an all solid wood (no laminate or plastic fingerboard) be had used for under 1300 or so? Looking at the 000 body style.

Would love to hear all input/opinions on the matter.

Thanks!

00015m is the obvious answer. Solid mahogany body and neck, rosewood fretboard. I love mine.

Welcome to AGF, sschw. The short answer is YES. Check out the Martin 00015SM like this one at My Favorite Guitars https://www.myfavoriteguitars.com/Ma...M-2236965.html or on Reverb https://reverb.com/item/11662762-mar...coustic-guitar. Ask for best price. I just got one and absolutely love it....

In the Standard series (15 and up) you might be looking at used.

Their new Road series starts with the all Sapele 000-10E and the Spruce/Siris 000-13E.

I like the specs of the 13 myself and the price ain't TOO bad ($1149) but the demos of it have left me wanting somewhat. Sounds thin in the bass dept. to me.

I am contemplating the 10 myself but I sure wish they would charge a little more and put better electronics in them.

These do have Richlite fingerboards though.

Should be able to easily find a 15 series used in mint condition for about 1/2 your budget.

Not infrequently MusiciansFriend will have a mahogany Martin dread on sale for less than a grand as the Stupid Deal of the Day, if you keep an eye out for it.

A used Martin GPCPA4 is all solid. I had one once. It was nice.

One more vote for the option of Larrivee or Eastman as an alternative to Martin. But yes...you can get a Martin for that price.

To the OP - WELCOME to AGF and enjoy your new guitar search. Martin is a great guitar company and you'll surely be able to find a nice one in your price range, but (as others have noted) you'd be well served to check out other, lesser known brands as well. One of these (as others have mentioned) is Larrivee -- which I believe provides the greatest value in your price range (superb quality at an affordable price). If you have your heart set on Martin then that's the brand for you. You'll find lots of love here on AGF for Martins, Larrivee, Taylor (and others), but it really depends on what sound and feel you're looking for. Each brand has it's own sound "personality". Also, you can find some great values buying used. Enjoy the search!
