1985 Martin LE D-28v (Brazilian) SOLD/TRADED
[/B]Please do not confuse this guitar with the HD-28v built with East Indian Rosewood.
History: In the early 1980’s, Martin used a stash of long-held Brazilian rosewood to produce small batches of 150th anniversary celebration guitars. This is one of those rare guitars. These models were produced only in 1983, 1984, 1985. This guitar has the "Vintage Series" paper label, signed by both C. F. Martin III and grandson Chris, officially known as C. F. IV. It’s a rare and beautiful bird. Specs: The D-28V has an ebony fingerboard and bridge, 1 11/16 nut, vintage headstock, grained ivoroid binding, the delicate "diamonds and squares" fretboard inlays, herringbone back stripe, and the tortoiseshell-pattern pickguard. It was constructed with hide glue. The Brazilian Rosewood is gorgeous (but difficult to photograph without distracting reflections). Condition: This guitar has been treated very well. The only flaws are two small cracks on one side at the lower bout (see photos). The cracks have been sealed and cleated by my luthier, an authorized Martin repair tech. As a result, they are difficult to see, although they can be felt. They in no way affect the stability or performance of the guitar. The guitar has recently had the frets dressed and the guitar set up. The neck is straight, the action low for fingerstyle, and plays like a dream. It needs NOTHING but a new home. SOLD/TRADED via PP for AGF members. Includes standard shipping to CONUS. Sold as described and pictured, with the original hard case. Will consider trades or trade/cash offers for: 1930’s-50’s Martin 00/000-17 or 18 with substantial neck profile 1930’s-40’s Gibson L-00 with substantial neck profile and nut width 1940’s-50’s Gibson LG-2 or LG-3 with substantial neck profile and nut width Martin Custom Shop 00 with substantial neck profile and nut width Boutique builder concert/00 guitar with substantial neck profile and nut width Last edited by justabram; 02-12-2020 at 05:57 PM. |

Beautiful bird !
Does it have a large rosewood bridge plate (according to a spec record from Gruhns' book)? Best, Dave. |

Dave, I honestly don’t know about the bridge plate. Lacking the necessary mirror to see inside the guitar, I will have to ask the luthier who worked on it to get an answer for you.

It’s a smaller maple bridgeplate, probably similar to what they installed in the HD-28 at the time.
One simple way to check is slide your iPhone into the guitar in “selfie” mode and take a picture! Beautiful guitar and good luck with the sale! Steve |

I have one of these D-28V's from 1983, and it is a "rib-rattler"... great big chords cause the back to vibrate against my ribs! Wonderfully balanced up and down and across the neck. Plus that is a reasonable price for Brazilian. If I did not own one already, I'd be VERY tempted to buy this one.
Good luck with your sale.

Thanks. Can't disagree with you: Wonderful vintage sound and vibe. It has a big, but articulate voice that has improved with age.
