Since it's all hypothetical, I'd buy this '38 D-18 sunburst at $85k. That's pretty much my holy grail guitar.

Whenever the lottery goes over 300 million my wife sends me out to get a ticket. Hey, at least I can dream then, right? So I have decided that if I ever hit the big one, I will buy this guitar - Martin D 45 Fire and Ice:

If I absolutely, positively had to spend 50 grand on guitars, I would probably end up with 35-40 guitars, and I would be overjoyed.

I would need to add another $38,500 to the $50,000 you're going to give me...but I would buy this.
https://buff.ly/3vuSqU4 An original finish OM-28 from 1930... a lot of money, but they're not making them any more I believe!

If you had $50k to spend - what guitars would you consider?
I recall reading that a Wayne Henderson guitar is the best possible investment. And I think the same logic would apply to any well-regarded single luthier high end guitar; The quantities produced will always be limited, and with sufficient luthier fame, always in demand.
I also think a stock of quality Brazilian rosewood would only go up in value.

I'd have the assortment of guitars I currently have, which are by choice, not budget (and in reality, I'd probably have a few less). I'd take the balance and invest it or redistribute into travel.

I’m surprised that 6 pages in no has mentioned Somogyi. So I will.

Something way beyond my talents like a Froggy Bottom. Maybe my fingerstyle skill would grow to earn the privilege of that kind of ownership.

These kind of polls are just ways to incriminate myself to my wife, but here goes:
1: Martin HD-35 2: Larrivee LV-05E 3: Taylor 458E-R 4: McKnight Custom (grand auditorium size but dread depth, torrified Adi top with some sort of rosewood back & sides) I'd also love to take a luthier workshop and build another - mostly for the moral support and to be able to do it without making a ton of mistakes like I've been doing!

my friend's Somogyi.
He died last November and isn't playing it anymore. His kids are selling it.

Maybe this isn't in the spirit of the question, but I would buy a good quality, but no-frills $1k guitar ... and use the remaining $49k to take time off work and buy lessons.
