I have a couple of Historic models (J35 and Southern Jumbo) as well as the Martin D-28 Custom Authentic. I've also played the 1934 Jumbo.
The differences are pretty much as one would expect. The Gibsons are MUCH drier than the Martin. I find the Martin surprisingly overtone-y/ringy (much more so than other D-28 variants I've owned). And these Gibsons are the opposite - dry, fundamental blues and heavy strumming machines. They're an acquired taste...but if you have that taste they are fantastic...loud, brash, ringy, in-yer-face. They're not mellow. Enjoy. |

I made my 1934 Gibson Jumbo Historic purchase and I couldn’t be happier with it. What great tone! I have a NGD with a picture in another thread.
