Does he have a price list? I googled his name and can't find a website.

Appears that Steve Denvir may be contacted through the websites below:

http://www.thebauhub.com/members/305

http://www.itaintrocketscience.biz/index.html

Believe he goes by JSDenvir on the Larrivee Forum and here as well.

Just a note to say thanks for all the kind words (particularly the OP’s) and introduce myself.

I’m Steve Denvir (JSDenvir here on the AGF and on the Official Luthier’s Forum), the guy who built the guitar, and no, I don’t have a web site cause I haven’t needed one to this point.

I built my first guitar in 2008. And 2009. And 2010 :-) And I fell in love with it. I’m just finishing up #12 to be delivered next week.

You could call me a hobby builder, but I’m hoping to be more than that. I’ve studied voicing with Ervin Somogyi, and french polishing with Joshia de Jonge (Sergei’s daughter and a really fine builder in her own right).

I’ve been published in American Lutherie, the magazine of the Guild of American Luthiers.

In my (almost) previous life, I was an advertising writer in Toronto, which put me in touch with many of the city’s finest session musicians, recording engineers, and writers. I’ve also been able to take advantage of the incredible knowledge base available in the Toronto luthier community. People like Linda Manzer and David Wren (while not as well-known as Linda, David is also a former Larrivee apprentice and a great builder. He’s also a very generous friend, who took the photograph of the mahogany 000).

I build using hide glue for all sonically-significant joints. Back, sides, top, and neck are all french polished. I use solid rather than kerfed linings for increased side stiffness.

My goal is to build guitars using what would be called in business, “best practices.” I’m not there yet, but I’m pretty sure I’m starting in the right place. Future refinements will include features like Laskin arm bevels and cutaways as standard features. I figure things that give the player better range and greater comfort while playing shouldn’t be treated as options.

And yes, I’m very reasonably priced. I’m still a relatively new builder, and I have the great good fortune that I don’t have to try to make a living doing this. So my prices reflect that.

If you’ve got any questions, please feel free to PM me or email at stevedenvir (at) gmail.com.

And again, thank you for all the kind words.

I'll see about getting a soundclip posted at some point, but I'm somewhat challenged in that department!

Indeed, the combination of the figured mahogany and the french polish is mesmerizing in person.

Thanks for the information. I have talked to Steve and he will be starting on my build. Should have it by Christmas at the latest. I really enjoyed talking with him.

One thing I forgot to mention. The source of this stunning wood is Tom Thiel from Northwind Tonewoods.

And if you want to talk about customer service...

...I had a back and side set of this wood, the buyer wanted a matching top, and I just called Tom and he had it all in his records. He pulled a top from the same tree the b/s set came from, shipped it to me, and it was a perfect match.

So much as I'd like to take all the credit, Tom deserves at least as much.

Steve
