Default Am I nit-picking?

New Guild f2512e 12 string came with a soft "jumbo" case, purchased from GC. However, the guitar is very difficult to get in, such that it has to be put in neck-first, with more pressure than I care to use. As I'm looking at it, I can see the top of the neck bulging through the top of the case. I'm wondering if this will eventually do any structural damage to the neck. I plan on bringing it to GC tomorrow, to see if they'll prorate this and offer me a better deal on a better case, so we'll see. I don't think it should be this tight. Whattya think?

If the case is putting pressure on the guitar, I would not like that.
I don't have any soft cases though.

Perhaps they packed it with the wrong case? I have an F2512e as well and the soft case (which seems quite nice) fits it like a glove.

Interesting thought, Rick. I will see if the folks at GC will be able to ascertain that!
Many thanks,
LarryK

I agree, I think you got the wrong case.

Guitar Center has a history of separating guitars and cases, and my thought is also that this wasn't the correct case for your guitar. I wouldn't approach this from the standpoint that you'd have to pay for the correct one...

A few years ago I bought a Taylor Big Baby from GC. I don't like gig bags (which can be purchased separately), so I had them return the gig bag and used the money to purchase a HSC separately.

I think the idea of taking it back to GC to show them how tight the fit is a good idea. They may be willing to give you a decent price on a case upgrade. I would not like my new Guild 12-string to be in a soft case, anyway.

I had a Guild jazz guitar, kind of a takeoff on the Gibson ES-175, that had a super tight fit in the case. The first time I put the guitar in that case, I was sure it was wrong but was assured that was the correct case. Every time I took that guitar out or put it back in, it made me cringe. However, the guitar never sustained any damage in all the time I had it. And this was a hard shell case, which would probably flex less than a soft case.

I hope this works out for you.

Thanks, Glenn! I am cautiously optimistic they will do the right thing.

I have one of their soft cases for my D-120. It fits just right, but I'm not a fan of the zipper routine. Maybe someday I'll get a hsc for it.

If they're like my local GC, they will take care of you. I bought an electric recently and they gave me the wrong case - I returned it and they replaced it with apologies and a smile.

After fingerpicking and flat picking, it might be time for some nitpicking!

My guess is that this is the wrong case. I bet GC will take care of you just fine.

My only fear is that I wind up getting a full refund and buying an upgrade!
