Default went to a Eastman/Larrivee shop today...

I had to go out into the world today to take my wife over
to the next town to pick up her car from the shop. For fun,
I stopped at a shop that sells Eastmans and Larrivees.

The fellow there handed me a e1d, it was the first Eastman I ever
touched. Just like I read here - it was a real good guitar,
$500!

He handed me some others... a e20om with the rosewood
back and herringbone. Holding it and looking at it, it seemed
"high end"... it lacked sound, but maybe all teeny guitars do?
The smallest I'm used to is my 1953 cf-100. All the Eastmans
I played felt great while I was playing them. At the end, he
handed me a Larrivee... I don't know which one, a dreadnought.
It played particularly nicely. The Larrivee and the e20om were
both around $1,2xx.xx, I don't remember exactly, but super nice
guitars for "less than thousands"...

-Mike

Larrivees are by far the best value in solid wood guitars made in the US.
Sounds like a good day spending time in a guitar store.

Dave has some nice guitars in his shop. I've come close to buying from him several times.

I love me some Larrivees, and for me they are the best value out there.

Sounds like a nice shop. My local dealer just carries the usual suspects, primarily Taylor and Martin.

I still remember my long distance guitar pusher telling me about Larrivee guitars when a D-03e was around $500 new...

It took me a lunchtime to decide to buy my Eastman.

My expectation would be that Larrivee is the superior product but, admittedly, I do not have direct experience with Eastman. I certainly have a reasonably good impression of Eastman though. Mostly positive vibes on here about Eastman with the odd threatened response about them from the Martin crowd Which, of course, we know to be the majority around these parts....

I might have liked the Larrivee the best, but I played several
very good Eastmans. The fellow in the shop said the Larrivee
"plays like buttah"... ... it played really nicely one of
the Eastmans (the next size down from a dreadnought?)
played "just about as good" and sounded great...

Larrivees are a tremendous bang for the buck.

Which store, Mike? Fifth String? Sounds like a fun time.

I had a Larrivee OM-03R in 2007 or so, but it sounded a bit muffled to the Eastman OM (AC710S) that I bought to replace it and still have. Compared to my Martin OM-21, the Eastman sounds almost as good though less vintage.

But the Larrivee that my mind always goes back to is an L-03R that I had before I got the OM-03R. Great sound, good playability—I wish I had that one back. I have this fondness for Larrivee (as well as Eastman) and may one day buy another.

I owned a Larrivee’ L03 cedar top, quilted mahogany back and sides. It was gorgeous.
It was absolutely impeccable and I bought it from Don and Marty at Wildwood Music in Ohio. The price I paid for it was phenomenal, $1198.00 brand new. You couldn’t touch one for that today. I also owned an Eastman E20D I bought used for $950 in Adirondack and Rosewood and that was well above it’s price point in value. Both of these companies make excellent guitars and when you consider what they cost, they are as good as you’ll find.

Yep, Fifth String. It is a nice guitar store, I could hear the
owner giving someone a lesson in the back room...
