Default Songs that date your old guitar

For me it's Melissa, the Greg Almond tune included in the Eat A Peach album, released about four months before I had a NGD with my D-18, bought new from a music store on Wabash under the loop tracks in downtown Chicago.

I didn't play the song then, but sure am playing it now.

I was just playing that song. Finally learned the lyrics on the third verse!

Got my Gretsch 6117 Double Annie brand-new in May '64...

There was these four English kids everyone was crazy about, and the one in the middle played a Country Gent...

Sorry, my guitar is only in her teens and far too young to be dating.

That guitar was destroyed in 1965 when it fell off the top of the Beatles' limo in traffic and was run over by some trucks.

I bought my first steel string guitar in 1971 - a Yamaha FG140 (or 160?) and I remember that was the year of some great songs - Don McLean - Vincent, James Taylor (Carole King) You've Got A Friend, Cat Stevens - Morning Has Broken, and Joni Mitchell's - A Case of You.

A great year to be playing guitar and singing great songs!

Best,
Jayne

...I have an 1889 Washburn parlor guitar...I often wonder what songs have been played on it over the years....the oldest song I know is Stephen Fosters Hard Times that I can easily imagine being played on it in 1889...(although it was published in 1854).... it sure sounds “right” when I play it on that old Washburn...

Mostly, my repertoire is older than my instruments. Much of it is even older than my '31 Duolian. There are, of course, exceptions (such as anything I write).

I preferred the California Raisins to the Almond Brothers. Or maybe I'm thinking of Mr. Peanut.

Bob Dylan album "Desire"
My high school best friend reminded me this past summer. I performed "Isis" and "Hurricane" on my brandy new D-28 at our 5 yr. outdoor reunion in September of that year.
