Desert Ironwood for the Fretboard. Seems to almost match the Walnut binding/bevels.

Thanks Justin and Tom! Getting closer now. Woohoo

Now that is a bevel! Some very nice woods going into that one, Paul.

Beautiful work, John. The detail on the back bracing deserves a clear top!

Thank You Ken! AND JOHN!!!

Here is the back bevel again. These bevels combined with the Manzer Wedge, light weight and 12 fret neck will make it feel WAY smaller than it is! But judging by past results this will sound enormous !!!

That ironwood looks like it will make a cool fretboard! Ties in very well everything else...

Thank You Nemoman. John says the desert Ironwood is super hard and not very heavy. Trying to shave every gram we can...

Meanwhile take a look at this wicked Walnut Headstock plate from a tree that used to live in the Kinnaird's yard:20191031_130830.jpg

Headstock shape. Going for a slightly shorter Headstock as this will be a longer body...20191111_074304.jpg

Note John's fancy schmancy T-shirt backdrop! Hahaha

Cheers

That is a beautiful piece of Walnut for the headstock...kinda wish the headstock could be even bigger so he could use more of it as it is so pretty.

Thanks Tom. The bookmatched flame Walnut was almost enough to make me ask John for a big FAT oversized Headstock! But we are trying to shave every gram we can! Haha

Meanwhile, in a disturbing development my fingerboard has been attacked by a mismatched mob of clamps!!!!

20191115_104834.jpg. Headstock is bound...20191116_111401.jpg. Side markers installed. Bone thru to the top for easy lap slide visual cues.

We are going with white slot diamonds on the Fretboard for more contrast than the blue that would match the rosette. I love the diamonds traditional look, and need the reference for lap slide!!!

John may make bone ones or use white abalone. Up to him (for a change). Haha

Cheers

Paul

That Ironwood sure made a pretty fingerboard, I did not realize it had so much figure!

Hey Ken. No clear top, but bracing will be somewhat visible thru the sound port!
And, they make pick removal very easy too! Haha

Happy Sunday to all

Paul

Thanks Tom! I did not realize the amount of figure either. But John did, I am quite sure.

John's esthetics seem to resonate with me almost all the time.

I figure neck carving will commence pretty soon. I sent John my all time fave, the OVERLORD, his most recent build for me, to kind of match his own neck carve.

1 25/32" Nut, and a slightly asymmetrical mod V/slim C with even a bit less meat in the high string shoulder. But just a bit more rounded on the back in the first few frets. Morphs to a slim C up the neck closer to the box.

Thanks John!!!
