I, too, like the contoured fret board ends but like other cosmetic things, I put them last in upgrades. If I was going to throw caution to the wind and 'do it all' I'd do another one, an X10 woody with custom length, exposed CF weave symmetric custom color-matched bridge, slotted headstock and curved fret board end. It really starts to be a rabbit hole though and the customization up-charges add up really fast.

Hey! That's my 12 string!! Shes a beaut!

I wanted to have a curve in the end of the fretboard that matched the signature curve in the bridge.

My new X30 which is will probably be finished in a few weeks also has something special, well 2 things actually, that should make it fairly unique., but I ain't spillin the beans yet!

The fretboard on my X10 was easy: keep it straight so it looks right with the humbucker pickup...

Humbucker on an acoustic? Well, there's another interesting option for you.

I spent weeks fretting over the fretboard contour. Guitarists all said slant it so you can use the high frets. Non-guitarist artist buddies said slant it the other way so it follows the contour of the body, from the cutaway to the waist that goes against your ribs. I've never played a fret above 12 so I went with the visual flow, but I'm sure it makes many a purist's skin crawl.

I kept it straight for my 10s as well. I don’t think they make fancy curved humbuckers.

I agree - it definitely is expensive and the additions add up quick! Given that it's a thread asking for suggestions, it seemed a shame to not throw up a few examples!

I'm a bit torn about it. It looks really cool to have a swoopy end. When I had an X20 I did find it fun to tap harmonics on the 24th fret, which you can't do if you chop it off. Plus it's $200 that could be spent on a custom scale length or profile, which make a much bigger difference.

Then the bottom curve between the lower and upper bout that rests on your leg doesn't go straight across front to back. it's angled forward towards the cutaway which holds the body into you.

Hope this all makes sense.
It does make sense. Thank you. It sounds like the X30 essentially swallows the player to minimize the perceived size of the guitar. There may be one in my future, but at this point after some back and forth with Emerald, I am going with the X20.

I have no experience with the X30, just the X20 and X7. The X20 is like my Martin 000-18GE - it's the Swiss Army Knife of the Emerald guitar line. Small enough to be extremely comfortable but big enough for great tone. My X7 is even small and more comfy but tonally - especially plugged in - it can't hold a candle to the X20.

For customization's probably my biggest thing is the neck, both scale and shape. If I could only have one thing to customize it would be the neck shape and scale length. For me that is a short scale at 24.6". I was offered three four choices, stock 25.5", 24.9", 24.6" and 24.0". You lose some acoustic volume with shorter scales but that was not a concern for me since my X20 is for playing live and plugged in. For a neck carve I went with a soft V which I took from a mold of a Santa Cruz 1929 00 I had. It's perfect.

The woody's are beautiful but in the end they are just cosmetic and unless you've got the extra cash to throw at it, that would be the last thing I'd do. This from the guy with two woody customs. Then there is the pickup system. I went with K&K because it was a known quantity for me and it did not disappoint. That said, I could live with their stock Baggs VTC system if I was looking to save. I did a custom pinless bridge on the X7 and while I like the look of it, the pinless feature does nothing for me.
I was on and off for a wood veneer or not. My final decision was based on the fact this hangs on the wall just as you enter my house. I see the veneer as something that would pass the wife veto. [emoji1]

I ordered with a veneer.

I am going with the stock neck and play the larger scale length typically, but went pinless (again aesthetic), and K&K with a fretboard mod.

It took some time, and finally arrived. Haven't had the chance to play it much yet. The fingerboard mod was different than expected (I tried reducing total fret count, but my description was not clear enough), but my thumb still seems to clear the fretboard with no issue so it is probably better this way. I also tried to go amber on the sides and back, but received the "it won't look as good veto" and it arrived in black. All in all I LOVE how the veneer turned out and for those percussive fingerstyle players out there, this guitar seems to thump, slap, pop, and react like any other wood guitar. It also fits well while one plays standing.

Can't get this app to add a photo (says I don't have permission in the forum) so check out the June 17 shipping video. It is the royal ebony guitar number 4.

Thanks for all of the inputs while going through the decision process early this year.

You must be using the AGF app. As a registered user, you'll need to download the Tapatalk app, but they work the same way. See this thread... Tapatalk changed the architecture without telling us and only charter members may now post pics from the AGF app.

Congratulations!

Default Pick-up Question

I noticed the individual saddles on the black guitar. Are those the RMC pick-ups that are typically used on Godin's?
