Where are all the female guitarists?

Where are the female guitarists? I was musing on this and I could only come up with 4 really significant women guitarists, Molly Tuttle, Maybelle Carter, Carol kaye, Mary Ford. That seems to me to be either my 75 year old brain just can’t remember or there is a severe lack of women guitarists. There have been and are many female vocalists, but female guitarists are scarcer than lips on a chicken.

Bonnie Rait, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Joni Mitchell, Ani Defranco

The list is endless. Maybe you need another cup of coffee

I think most girls use the guitar as a help, not a focal point- many of them are pretty dad gum good, but more interested in using their voice to connect with the listener.

How about Big Mama Thornton. You can also catch a group called Larkin Poe,2 sisters that one plays guitar and the other slide.

Kaki King, Muriel Anderson, Vicki Genfan, Sarah Jarosz and many more if you consider classical guitarists. Sharon Isbin, Badi Assad, Liona Boyd….

I see a lot of young women guitarist trying too hard to look sexy on Instagram while playing guitar. Not sure what that phenomenon is.
