My hunch is that the financial outlay and many local regs, may make that too risky for many planners, sponsors, and even attendees. (Notice, I didnt use the forbidden word).

It would probably have to be a voluntary, informal gathering at an agreed upon hotel. As much as Id enjoy such a gathering, for now, Im hanging with my local peeps and the tablet. Flying is just too high on the “hassle index” for me right now.

I don't think NAMM is open to the general public. It's mostly for vendors, with some exceptions.

If you're interested in guitars from small shops there may be a festival in your local area. For example, a popular one in my area is the La Conner Guitar Festival, which I hope to attend in the spring. You might try a google search to see if there are any close to you. And if not, there's a good reason for a road trip.

Never been, but there is the Four State Guitar Show in Springfield Mo.

Not sure when the next one is. Or if I'll be able to make it.

I went to the Philly show a couple of weeks ago. It was mostly vintage items out of my price range but I still enjoyed gawking around.

RMMGA (rec.music.makers.guitar.acoustic) was a UseNet group that held get togethers. I attended a couple, one in the UK, another in the Bay Area. They were fairly small gatherings, twenty people maybe. No booths or anything formal, just middle aged guys showing off their guitars.

Wow. Rmmga. I haven’t seen that term in years. Maybe decades…

FYI a few individual members have organized local/regional meetings at several times in the past, with varying degrees of success, and TMK usually consisting of a "petting zoo" where members have the opportunity to check out each others' instruments (strictly voluntary of course), an open mic/song circle, and some sort of beverages/finger food (pun intended); haven't seen one in a while, but when/if they do take place they're advertised in the Events/New Releases subforum. In addition there's at least one permanent group, the Twin Cities AGF Association run by one of the former AGF mods (M19):

https://www.facebook.com/groups/TCAGFA

There may in fact be others, but at present I'm not aware of any...
