Default For Sale: 2016 MARTIN 00-17S short-scale 12 fretter

***** SOLD **********

2016 Martin 00-17S

Killer little 12-fretter short scale blues box! A real joy to play! Super comfortable and extremely LOUD for its diminutive size. (My problem is I ended up with too many really nice guitars and this one isn’t getting much play in the rotation…and I’m trying to sell a few to fund a J-45 purchase).

Now discontinued, I think Martin was going for the 1930’s “old, well played guitar” look with this one. Typical -17 Series appointments with minimal grain filling and a satin finish give it the depression-era vibe. 12 fret design with the “standard” body shape differentiate it from the current 00-17 Whiskey Sunset offerings. The 00-17S sits at a point above the mass-produced Asian imports and gives one a “real Martin” at a price point more accessible than the Standard series or boutique offerings (IMO).

I have swapped out the saddle and nut with unbleached bone (saddle) and Buffalo Horn (nut), ebony bridge pins for the plastic ones, and added a vintage-looking pickguard and Waverly tuners (the Golden Age tuners that came on the guitar looked the part, but were real dogs, performance-wise).

This is a great guitar if you’re looking for a true “parlor” size from Martin at a medium price point.

Price: $1175 shipped to continental USA. International buyers contact me to discuss shipping cost adjustment.

Specs:

Top: Solid Sitka spruce
Back and sides: Mahogany
Neck: Select Hardwood, High Performance Modified Low Oval
Fretboard and bridge: Rosewood
Nut: 1.75”
Scale: 24.9”
Bridge string spacing: 2 5/32”
Bracing: Scalloped Sitka Spruce

Looks like it sold...here he is talking about selling it in a recent post

I recently sold a 00-17S, which did not have a pickguard. Like you, I’m a “pick guard guy.” I made my own using the Stew Mac “tortoloid” material to retain the vintage look/feel.

If you are not comfortable making your own, consult with Taylor at Holter pick guards. I’ve had him make me three for other guitars and the work is consistently outstanding.

Good because every time I see a small body short scale twelve fret for less than two grand I want to buy it!
