Default Gretsch 2210 Streamliner

Hi,

Have any of you taken these $299 guitars for a ride?

Thoughts?

I already have a Reverend Trickshot (tele-like), and am looking for an inexpensive 2nd guitar to add a little humbucker to the diet.

In that price bracket I'd be looking at Ibanez first - just more guitar for the money IME...

You might want to do some reading over at Gretschtalk. The Streamliner series isn't horrible, though my experience is that they use lesser quality hardware. When you catch them on sale, they are a good guitar for the price. GC has several on sale for a good price during November. You may also want to look at Epiphone semi hollow or hollow guitars. And as Steve indicated, Ibanez makes some good ones too.

May I ask what hardware? And is it easily upgraded down the line?

For me it was the tuners, the pickup selector switch, and to a lesser extent the pots. I owned one for a while and pretty much upgraded all of that. It had P90s and sounded really quite good! Again, they are a particularly good deal if you can get them on sale.

I ordered one; let's hope for the best!

I guess I am looking for a good second electric on a budget that is 1) a complement to my Reverend TrickShot (tele) that will also allow me to learn and play around (as a hobby) with mods.

It hasn't come yet, and I imagine it might sound great and be setup great from the start if I am lucky?

Targets to upgrade (maybe)?

1) wraparound bridge: change for a higher quality one that is adjustable; which one?

2) tuners: hipshot?

3) nut: bone? I am not comfortable with this one myself yet...

4) Switch? What's wrong with the one on it? How easy is it for a dope to do by himself?

Thanks guys.

Since it doesn't have a Bixby, tuning stability should be fine as it is. I would not worry with changing the switch until you have issues. You may never have any issues. Some don't. The nut is "synthetic bone" which is the same as on the Electromatics Pro Jets, so it'll probably be fine as is. Not much I can say on the bridge. If you want to upgrade something, the tuners would be my first concern.

Mine was good right out of the box. It is what it is, but the build quality seems at least as good as anything else at that price point. I bought it specifically for Open G slide. Pickups seem hot to me and not particularly Gretschy, but I'm good with that. It's fun and easy to play. I have no plans for upgrades at this point, though I don't use it a lot due to how I have it tuned.

Mine not so good out of the box. One side of the bridge was cranked way high. There obviously was no 55point inspection.

It took an hour but I finally got the action corrected, and I have been playing with it all evening through a Blues Jr.. It sounds fantastic with a lot of bark. Very surprised

Yeah, unfortunately they've gotten kinda lax in that department over the last ten years or so that I've been dealing with them; that said, maybe that lopsided bridge was in fact a product of the 55-point inspection. FYI it wouldn't be the first time I've seen that strategy used to mask neck issues (twisting, warping along one side only) and, regardless of how it plays right now, I'd have a tech check it out while the return period is still in effect - and before you perform any upgrades...
