Default Memphis Build - Rotemar R1 & R-Dread

Hi everyone!

Memphis acoustic guitar fest is coming up and I figured, since seeing so many threads about guitars coming to Memphis, IŽd
might aswell bring you another one...

IŽll be combining pictures and info about both guitars IŽm bringing here and hopefully it wont get messy... I said hopefully...

Just FYI, I started building these in late 2014, and then IŽve done other projects in between, and now these bad boys are getting close...

The first one is my R1-model:

Top: European spruce
Top braces: European spruce
B & S: Higuerilla (Sides laminated with double black veneers)
Back braces: European spruce
Neck: Honduran mahogny
Fretboard: West african ebony
Headplates: West african ebony
Binding: Indian ebony
Bridge: Madagascar Rosewood
Tuners: Gotoh 510 gold with black buttons
12th fret neck joint
Bolted neck and fretboard

The second one is my R-Dread:

Top: Adirondack spruce
Top braces: European spruce
B & S: Higuerilla (Sides laminated with double black veneers)
Back braces: European spruce
Neck: Honduran mahogny
Fretboard: West african ebony
Head plates: West african ebony
Binding: Indian ebony
Bridge: Madagascar rosewood
Tuners: Gotoh 510 gold with blac buttons
13 thr fret neck joint
Bolted neck and fretboard

IŽll start with a few pictures of the R-1:

And a few of the R-Dread:

Well, that was more than plenty. IŽll probably post more pics in the next few days or so

Looking great , can't wait to see the final product . A beginner question . Why do some leave a tab or notch at the top of there back and top plates ? Is it for center line purpose ? Thanks , I'll be following this one

I'm not familiar with Higuerilla - is it in the rosewood family? Great looking work - keep the photos coming.

Thank you.

I do it mainly because it gives me a little spot where I can clamp the top or bottom without have to being afraid of hurting a area that will end up on the guitar. Hope that made sense

It is not a true rosewood (dalbergia) but it is pretty close to it when it comes to tonal qualites ( for what IŽve heard and read about, this is my first time building with higuerilla)
Altough, when it comes to working with the actual wood, it is a lot more like mahogny, light and nice on your tools.

Next update coming here, starting with the R-1:

The body is all bound up and endgraft is in its place:

Nice looking backplate:

And the top-side with the pocket for the bolted fretboard routed:

This little plate will be glued on to the fingerboard extension later on:

And it will fit right here:

Very very very nice!! I really love the back plate of the R1. So beautifully figured, so perfect! And also loving the end graft detail of the Dread.

So here I got the necks all done and ready for finishing!

And I got the first coat of nitro on:

The wood really comes alive, although you cant see it so well in these pictures, IŽm afraid.

Now, IŽll continue with the finishing process, and IŽll be back later with pictures of the finished guitars!

Very nice builds, here! The rosette in the dread is so gorgeous and understated. Can't wait to give these a run at the show!
