Congrats on that. How do you find the tonal difference between them that could be attributed to the different b/s woods i.e. the blackwood vs. queensland maple?

This is always said about Matons. However, I don't think it's true.... this was recorded acoustically with a couple of microphones. I think it sounds fantastic.

3 things.
1. - It's Tommy Emmanuel playing.
2. - His guitars are custom made at Maton and not 'off-the-rack' models.
3. - It's Tommy Emmanuel playing.

4. It's still a Maton.
5. It still sounds fantastic- through regular microphones, not their highly-lauded onboard mic system.

They are guitars - all different! Try it before buying it...

Here is a new Artisan video with 3 different Maton TE 808 models - cutaway, non cutaway and the top line Custom Shop 'Personal'. The second one in the video sounds like mine a bit - except mine is custom black finish, no kangaroo, sig etc!

Here is another new Artisan video with a budget 808, a mid range 808 and a higher range 808:

I look at them as various Gibson LG2/3s with a great pickup!

Hey...yeah... I can see that. I actually got a Farida OT-22 recently, which you may know is a LG2 "copy", for the most part. I love it... but yeah the 808s, to me, always sounded "bigger" than various OMs/000s. The LG comparison is a good one, I think.

Back in 2008, I think I was able to play Tommy's "Mouse" guitar, having access to it for several days.
It played great, and sounded very sweet to my ears.
He said "That guitar likes you", and I said "The feeling's mutual!"

The 808 Matons were redesigned in 2013-4 and the AP5-Pro pickup system was added - assume TE had lots of input...I have never seen an old one except on video, but the 808s have been around since the 70s.

TE treats his 808s like disposable lighters, Mouse long retired and 3 new ones turn up regularly.

This scant information is only what I have read, so...

There is a Maton TE Personal custom shop on sale near me, but do I want to catch a virus while testing it? Hmmm. I may stay with my current 808s....

Ian Moss with old 808 (he has a few old 808s before the AP5-Pro pickup was invented):

I have a Maton CS Flatpicker https://maton.com.au/product/flatpicker
and a Maton S808: https://maton.com.au/news/the-new-s808

Terrific guitars. No complaints.
