I saw James Taylor in Seattle
Hello,
I had the great pleasure of seeing James Taylor in Seattle on Saturday night. I had never seen him perform before, and wasn't sure what to expect given that he's 68 now and doesn't tour widely. He was great! Voice is still mostly there, and the guitar playing is better than ever. Many guitarists play simplified versions of their songs during live concerts but not JT. He played all of the same complicated chords as always. All of the hits we all know and love were covered, as well as some new work. I was lucky enough to be in row 6, which was really close to him. During the 20 minute intermission he never left the stage but instead crouched down in front and signed autographs and took selfies with a massive number of people. Very gracious. James played two acoustic Olsens, one with a cutaway. The sound of those guitars is inseparable from his music. He also played an electric guitar for one or two songs. See him!

Hi BHO,
I had seen that JT was going to be in Seattle; I'm so glad you got to see him and his band. My wife and I saw JT play at Tanglewood (Massachusetts) over July 4 in 2011, I believe. That was also a great show, though we were pretty far back in the crowd. We also took one of my daughters and her husband to the show, and we all loved the performance. You were in row 6! Holy Cow! Good for you. And good for James for hanging around on the stage during intermission. How gracious of him! - Glenn

I've seen JT many times. On one occasion, at Sheffield in 2003 I got so close at the end that I could have just about touched his foot as he sang Sweet Baby James. I got quite emotional.

Agreed, he is very gracious and a good entertainer. I've seen him several times over the years and most recently last year when he performed with the Utah Symphony and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
The numbers he did with the full symphony orchesta and 300 plus member choir were beyond impressive for lack of a better adjective. |

My husband and I saw him recently also. We were also amazed at how friendly and personal he was with the audience. He definitely still sounds great and appreciates his fans.

I saw James Taylor in Seattle
I saw him with Carole King in Los Angeles when they did the Troubadours tour. While his voice may not be quite what it was in the old days, his guitar playing remains stellar.

Go to his site and watch some of his lesson. They are really well done. It's amazing how he contorts his fretting hand to make some of the chords. All this from a former heroin addict. Very impressive indeed.
On another note, if you ever get the chance to see Lindsy Buckingham, jump on it. I saw him from the front row a couple of years ago and it was awesome. Jim

He's coming to Ravinia this summer. Hope it's on a night I'm in town and not gigging!
